Family history research in the Herisau State Archives, Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Switzerland
Tracing the family names "Fässler" (Grandfather on my father's side) and "Tobler" (Grandmother on my father's side), who are citizens of the municipality of Rehetobel AR.
"Fässler" and "Tobler" have been very common family names in the Appenzellerland region for hundreds of years.
The family sheets shown are available from 1898 to 1750. Birth, marriage and death records are also available before 1750.
For data protection reasons, personal data from the last 125 years is not publicly available. (However, this protection period varies from canton to canton)
The staff at the Herisau State Archives are extremely friendly and very helpful! This makes the intensive work much easier and very pleasant. Thank you !

A link to a local TV report about the Streiff family from New Glarus, USA, who had come searching for signs of their forebears in Glarnerland, Switzerland.
Matt Streiff first contacted me some 3 months ago asking specifically whether I could locate the homes of his ancestors Joshua Wild and Mathias Schmid.
After much internet research, several visits to Canton Glarus and with the support of several dedicated people from Glarnerland, I finally found the houses where they had lived, before they migrated to the USA.
I was also able to introduce Matt Streiff to his cousin: Rudolf Herrmann from Schwanden.
Joshua Wild and Mathias Schmid were among the first settlers from Glarnerland who founded New Glarus in Wisconsin in 1845.

Friday 18:00 at the Kirche St. Johann, the New Glarus Yodel Club sings the song "Singe wei mir, jutze wei mir!" What a beautiful performance and sung in perfect Swiss German. Congratulation!

Genealogy Tour in Glarnerland, Switzerland, with Matt Streiff and families from New Glarus, Wisconsin (also known as Swissconsin) USA
In 1845 about 200 people from Glarnerland migrated to the USA and founded "New Glarus" in Wisconsin. In the years and decades later, a great number of Glarners and other Swiss people followed them in their foot steps.
There are about 200 original family names from the Canton of Glarus. Families with names like Bäbler, Blumer, Dürst, Elmer, Fischli, Freuler, Hefti, Hösli, Jenny, Kundert, Landolt, Legler, Luchsinger, Marti/y, Netstaler, Steger, Streiff, Stüssi, Wild, Zwicky, just to name a view, (and the English adapted variations of them) mostly have their (Swiss) roots in the Glarnerland.

It is with great sadness that we hear how Mrs Pamela Chopra, beloved wife of the late legendary Bollywood director Yash Chopra, passed away yesterday, aged 75.
The King of Romance had brought her here to Switzerland for the very first time in 1970, during their whirlwind, 2-month, round-the-world honeymoon tour and a spark of passion was lit that burns to this day.
It would fire their personal relationship as she became a respected producer in her own right, singer, writer and costume designer and fire his greatest romantic films, including Faasle 1985, Chandni 1989, Darr 1993, DDLJ 1995, Dil To Pagal Hai 1997, Mohabbatein 2000 and Veer Zaara 2004.
Together they had fallen in love with Switzerland. Together they returned to set the greatest stars of Bollywood romance midst our verdant Alpine beauty.
Here, where our scenery has been associated with romance in Indian film since the 1960s she, he, they both together, are remembered.
May she rest in peace. With our condolences to all her family and friends worldwide.
