Below you will find the official requirement by Costa Rica immigration in order to file for residency
if you are retired or disabled.

1 -Birth certificate of the person issued in the country of origin, duly legalized or apostilled. 2 -Criminal record duly legalized or apostilled. 3 -Demonstrate with an authentic document that you are enjoying pension as annuity which amount shall not be less than one thousand two hundreds Monthly dollars (US $ 1,200.00) currency of the United States of America or its equivalent in colones a. If certification is issued abroad must come authenticated and legalized or apostilled.

-Receipt of payment in the amount of US $ 50.00; This money must be canceled in colones, the account242480-0 of Banco de Costa Rica. ( Done in Costa Rica )
-Receipt of payment in the amount of ¢ 125 and ¢2.50; for each sheet to submit to the application for residence, where indicated the name of the foreign person as depositor. ( Done in Costa Rica )
-Two passport size photographs, ( Done in Costa Rica )
-Proof of consular registration. The requirements for such registration shall be done at the Consulate corresponding.( Done in Costa Rica )

IMPORTANT NOTES
All documents coming from abroad, should be duly apostilled
-The documents that were not issued in language Spanish, they must provide a translation of this language, which must be issued by an official translator ( Done in Costa Rica )
Any application for residence must be made when the person is legal in the country; ie your visa has not expired.
-If the person enters Costa Rica as a tourist and want to apply for a residence he shall deposit further the sum of US $ 200.00; in the account 242480-0 Banco de Costa Rica on account of change of category. This money shall be deposited in colones.
