This happened a few days ago across the river from La Quinta Lucrecia. Truck driver transporting wood miss judged the muddy narrow road, and went off the edge. The driver was taken in ambulance to the hospital. While the tow truck was left to pull the car out.

Red Jacket cops.
Not all police have the same job description. If you have ever seen Police with bright red jackets patrolling parks or populated areas they specialize in one area; to control buying, selling and receiving of alcoholic drinks in public areas.
I stopped to talk to 4 of them at the parque Calderon. Very nice and very professional police officers. They did not seem bothered to stop and chat for awhile. Also not shy to picture taking.

Twenty eight year old Luis Arias works at the Otavalo market selling homemade alpaca clothing. For 35 years this family has been in this line of business. Luis is married and has one child.
Motivaion: " Trabajo por que me gusta lo que hago y como es nuestro artesanias. Elaboramos todo clase de artesania. Trabajo dia a dia para mi familia y mas por mi hijo para que estudie y que haga cosas buenas en el futuro."

If you have not been up on the mountain (Turi).
Turi is a great place for both exercise and sight seeing.
There is a staircase and a paved road that lead up to the top where you will find a church building.

Traders protest in the park Calderon demanding the mayor of Cuenca to end the persecution of informal traders, they want to work Thursdays and Sundays (currently not allowed) and to be assigned a definite market instead of provisional one.

Protesta de comerciantes en el parque calderon exigiendo al alcalde de cuenca que termine con la persecusion a los comerciantes informales, que se devuelvan los dias jueves y domingos para trabajar y que se les asigne un mercado definitivo en lugar del provisional.

Carol Quintero & Sebastian Martinez are a couple that perform Malabares Art all over the city of Cuenca. Most likely you have seen them. Carol is 24 years old and Sebastian is 21.
Their goal and what they strive to achieve is "hacer la gente sonreir" (make people smile).
There motivation: "Me gusta ver la gente sonreir. Quieremos cambiar la rutina por ser muy monotono" (I like to see poeple smile. We want to change the normal routine because its monotone.)

Juan Vaculima, 26 years old, has been an artisan for many years. Juan is a father of one daughter. His future goal is to take his work and expand outside the city.
His motivation: "Dar gusto a la gente por medio de las cosas que haga expectaculos."

Juan builds firework castles like the ones you will see this week at the Parque Calderon.

When asked what motivates her everyday she said, "Mi familia me apoya en todo y estoy bien de salud.

A couple of days ago there was a crash on Gabriel Mistral y Gonzales Suárez. Small sedan had stopped at a stop light and was waiting for the light to turn green. While waiting a mid size car did not realize that traffic had stopped for the light. "Obviously not paying attention" and rear ended the first car. No one was seriously injured. In conclusion not all crashes happen from the front and most of the time it's to late to react. Use seat belts weather in your own car, taxi or other forms of transportation. BE SAFE
