Aswan City

Aswan is the ancient city of Swenett, later known as Syene, which in antiquity was the frontier town of Ancient Egypt facing the south. Swenett is supposed to have derived its name from an Egyptian goddess with the same name. This goddess later was identified as Eileithyia by the Greeks and Lucina by the Romans during their occupation of Ancient Egypt because of the similar association of their goddesses with childbirth, and of which the import is "the opener". The ancient name of the city also is said to be derived from the Egyptian symbol for "trade"or "market"

Aswan is a busy market and tourist centre located just north of the Aswan Dam on the east bank of the Nile at the first cataract. The modern city has expanded and includes the formerly separate community on the island of Elephantine.

Aswan includes five monuments within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae; these are the Old and Middle Kingdom tombs of Qubbet el-Hawa, the town of Elephantine, the stone quarries and Unfinished Obelisk, the Monastery of St. Simeon and the Fatimid Cemetery. The city's Nubian Museum is an important archaeological center, containing finds from the International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia before the Aswan Dam flooded all of Lower Nubia.

18/12/2023

Baron Palace or Qasr El-Baron is one of Cairo’s unique landmarks that has been known for its extraordinary and curious architecture. Baron Empain’s Palace was built in 1906 to be the residence of the Belgian industrialist Edouard Empain who came to Egypt in 1904 to construct a railway line linking the lower Egyptian city of Mansoura to Mataria on the far side of Lake Manzala.

The Baron Empain Palace is a distinctive and historic Hindu temple-inspired mansion in Heliopolis, a suburb northeast of central Cairo, Egypt. It was founded by Édouard Empain, a Belgian businessman who was awarded the title of "Baron" by the King of Belgium due to his contribution to the Paris Metro and tramway lines connecting Belgium, Northern France, and the Netherlands.

The palace was designed by Alexandre Marcel, a French architect and a member of the French Institute. The palace's interior was constructed and decorated by Georges-Louis Claude. Inspired mostly by Angkor Wat in Cambodia and by the Hindu temples of Orissa in East India, it was built between 1907 and 1911, in reinforced concrete, which was considered a symbol of luxury and status at the time. The building is impressive with the richness of its ornamentation, which includes monkeys, elephants, lions and snakes, as well as statues of Buddha, Shiva, Krishna and other Hindu deities.

08/11/2023

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo is situated on the northeast of the centrally located Tahrir Square. It is one of the largest museums in the world, and the first national museum in the Middle East.

The idea of a museum for Egyptian antiquities in Egypt goes back to Muhammad Ali Pasha, who was viceroy of Egypt from 1805 to 1848. Attempting to put an end to the export of antiquities, he issued a decree on the 15th of August 1835, which resulted in the first Egyptian museum for antiquities in Cairo. Housed in a building near El-Ezbekia Garden, the display was designed by Hakikan Effendi, and the collection was managed by Youssef Diaa Effendi. At the same time, Sheikh Rifa’a al-Tahtawi, who was responsible for the excavation and conservation of Egyptian monuments, also ordered that no further excavations be undertaken without his permission. He announced that the export of artefacts from Egypt was strictly forbidden, and that all finds were to be transported to the El-Ezbekia Museum.

In 1851, during the reign of Abbas I, the entire collection was transferred from El-Ezbekia to one of the halls within the Citadel of Salah El-Din (Saladin), where it was accessible only to private visitors. However, in 1854, most of the objects were gifted to Austria’s heir to the throne, Archduke Maximilian, who had shown great interest in them during his visit to Egypt. They now represent a major part of the Egyptian collection in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.

24/10/2023

The Bent Pyramid is one of the pyramids built by King Sneferu, the first king of the Dynasty 4. It was called “bent” because of its broken lines due to a change of angle, an engineering issue in its design. Indeed, the pyramid construction began at an angle of 55 degrees but had to be adjusted to 43 degrees due to an overload of blocks resulting in instability. Despite their adjustments, the king’s designers made a new pyramid at a short distance, the Red Pyramid. The first angle of the Bent Pyramid suggests the transition phase between the Step-pyramid design of King Djoser in Saqqara and the later smooth-faced pyramids.

The Bent Pyramid has two entrances, one on the north side, with modern wooden stairs, and the other is high on the west side. Each entrance leads to a chamber with a corbelled roof, giving this gradual effect. The northern entrance chamber is below ground level. As for the western entrance chamber, it is built higher up in the body of the Bent Pyramid.

"Aswan"
The magical city of Aswan, formerly known as Swenett, is located in the south of Egypt. The word Aswan is derived from the ancient Egyptian word “Soun”, which means souk or market. Aswan earned its name because it was a strategic gateway to the South. In ancient times, it was the main provider of granite used for obelisks and sculptures.

Aswan is known for its beautiful Nile Valley scenery, significant archaeological sites and its peaceful aura. Its weather is warm all year round, which makes it a perfect winter destination.

The city provides splendid views and attractions to sail through the Nile with a felucca (Egyptian sailboat). The river flows gently from Lake Nasser, through various islands, surrounded by black granite and greenery. Sailing to historical sites, such as Philea, the Elephantine Island, Aswan Museum, Agha Khan Mausoleum, the Monastery of St. Simeon, and the Botanical Island, gives you an opportunity to explore Aswan’s rich history and culture. Other spectacular historical destinations include the Temple of Abu Simbel, the Temple of Kom Ombo, the Nubian Museum and the Aswan High Dam.

Apart from Aswan’s historical sites, the city offers a unique cultural experience through the Nubian Village, known as “Gharb Seheyl”. Exploring the colourful village allows you to discover the last vestiges of the Nubian civilization that co-existed with the Ancient Egyptians. Besides the Aswan Souk, Nubia is also a great place to shop for souvenirs, spices and local handmade crafts.

11/10/2023

The Siwa Oasis is an urban oasis in Egypt. It is situated between the Qattara Depression and the Great Sand Sea in the Western Desert, 50 kilometres east of the Egypt–Libya border and 560 kilometres from the Egyptian capital city of Cairo.

The largest salt lake in the Siwa Oasis, appears to be a mirage of the sparkling waters of any paradise beach at first glance. A lake totaling more than 12,000 hectares appears on the border of the wilderness 560 kilometers east of Cairo, on the way east from Siwa in Egypt's Western Desert. For centuries, the area, which is 50 kilometers from the Libyan border, has remained isolated. Even when it opened to tourism in the 1980s, it remained outside of Egypt's major tourist sites, which helped to preserve its unique and vulnerable nature.

It's incredible to know that the lakes are almost 95 percent salt due to a neighboring salt mine. They're around 4 metres deep and offer both hot and cold water! There's no need to worry if one can't swim well because the salt content of the water makes drowning impossible. Because the lake is endowed with salt, the residents of Siwa Oasis have long utilized the salt to construct dwellings, sharpen and shape their instruments, and lastly, to light their lamps.

Beside those wonderful lakes, siwa has a lot of desert activities to offer like Sandboarding, Safari and Bedouin's oriental Dinner.

Fayoum City (El Fayoum)

The Fayoum, located less than a hundred kilometers from Cairo and with its rich heritage of flora and fauna and archaeology, is one of the most beautiful and fertile regions of Egypt. in addition, it includes two areas declared as protected by the Egyptian Government: Lake Qarun and Wadi Rayan National Parks.
The Wadi El Rayan reserve consists of seven parts; the upper and lower Lakes , El Rayan springs, El Rayan Falls, El Modawara Mountain (or Jabal El Modawara in Arabic), El Rayan Mountain (Jabal El Rayan) and Wadi El Hitan (The Valley of the Whales). All these areas are full of amazing landscapes such as oases, mountains, rock formations and waterfalls.

The area is also a major attraction to archaeologists and geologists due to the volume of marine fossils and archaeological remains found in there. Wadi El Hitan or the Valley of the Whales is named after the pre-historic whale fossils discovered in the area, which are considered to be the earliest whale fossils ever found and earned the valley its position on the UNESCO list of protected World Heritage sites.

Finally don't forget the Sandboarding!
Feel like spending a day out of the ordinary! Roll on the Dunes! Take loads of fun pictures of yourself in the desert! Ride a 4 wheeler! B.B.Q. lunch! Lit a fire!

Just run around and go crazy! The trip is aimed to show our travelers how to enjoy the desert while leaving it intact. We don’t have to build resorts or change the desert’s nature in order to enjoy or make better use of our resources. We could always get out of the city; have a blast and get back home taking nothing but photos and great memories and leaving nothing but footsteps.

Coral Reef Sharm El Sheikh Egypt | The best, most beautiful, A gorgeous destination for holidays for Diving and Snorkeling.

most common coral species & snorkeling sites and corals and molluscs in the waters of Sharm El Sheikh Red Sea.

Blessed with two coastlines, the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, Egypt offers a truly unforgettable experience above and below the water. The Egyptian Riviera in particular is an epic selection of snorkeling spots. A few meters from the shore there are so many different creatures to see just below the surface of the water: clownfish in their sea anemones, schools of banner fish, colorful angelfish but also sea turtles, stingrays, dolphins and the elusive dugong.

Egypt is famous for its vibrant marine life and if you visit Sharm el Sheikh’s best snorkeling spots you can see the Red Sea’s most beautiful coral gardens. The town has a long coastline fringed by healthy reefs that are easily accessible from shore in several places. In this guide, we share with you the best spots and hotels for those looking for easy shore snorkeling in Sharm el Sheikh!

Sharm el Sheikh is the top destination when it comes to snorkeling in Egypt. With stunning coral reefs, large schools of tropical fish, turtles, stingrays, the occasional sighting of manta rays and whale sharks, this is an underwater paradise.

The whole area is rich in different types of corals and many species of fish, amazing flora and fauna. All dive sites are close to shore as the coral starts at the water’s edge. This means that the inshore reef extends 10-30 meters at about 1 meter depth. The reef then drops vertically forming the typical walls of the area. These slopes range from 10 to 800 meters. The water temperature is between 20°C in February and 27°C from July to October with excellent visibility between 20-30 meters!!!

Sharm El Sheikh has around 30 different dive sites ranging from the Strait of Tiran in the north to Ras Mohammed in the south, with Shaa’b Ali and the wreck of the SS Thistlegorm in the Gulf of Suez.

26/09/2023

The pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx are among the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and indeed already were even in Roman times. Each of these spectacular structures served as the final resting place of a king of the 4th Dynasty (c.2613–2494 BC). The Great Pyramid of Giza was built for king Khufu (c.2589–2566 BC), and the other two for Khafre and Menkaure, his son and grandson. Khufu’s pyramid is both the oldest and largest of the three, and the first building to exceed it in height would not be built for another 3,800 years!

Although the three pyramids dominate the plateau, they are in fact surrounded by many other monuments. Every king’s pyramid was just one element albeit the most important of a larger complex that included smaller, subsidiary, queens’ pyramids; an additional one that acted as a second, symbolic, tomb for the king, called a satellite pyramid; mastaba tombs for nobility and other family members; burials of actual and/or symbolic boats; and a pair of temples linked by a richly decorated causeway. One of these temples, called the valley temple, led into the pyramid complex, and was located on or near a body of water where boats could dock. The other, the funerary (or upper) temple, stood near the base of the pyramid. Priests maintained the mortuary cult of the deceased king in these temples, where his divine aspect was worshiped, and where rich and diverse offerings were presented to his soul so he could have a peaceful and luxurious afterlife.

24/09/2023

The Citadel of Cairo or Citadel of Saladin (Arabic: قلعة صلاح الدين, romanized: Qalaʿat Salāḥ ad-Dīn) is a medieval Islamic-era fortification in Cairo, Egypt, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and further developed by subsequent Egyptian rulers. It was the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its location on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near the center of Cairo commands a strategic position overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. When it was constructed it was among the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its time. It is now a preserved historic site, including mosques and museums.

In addition to the initial Ayyubid-era construction begun by Saladin in 1176, the Citadel underwent major development during the Mamluk Sultanate that followed, culminating with the construction projects of Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad in the 14th century. In the first half of the 19th century Muhammad Ali Pasha demolished many of the older buildings and built new palaces and monuments all across the site, giving it much of its present form. In the 20th century it was used as a military garrison by the British occupation and then by the Egyptian Army until being opened to the public in 1983. In 1976, it was proclaimed by UNESCO as a part of the World Heritage Site Historic Cairo (Islamic Cairo) which was "the new centre of the Islamic world, reaching its golden age in the 14th century.
