We would advise anyone considering a balloon ride to fly over Luxor. For most tourists in Egypt, staying in Luxor means staying in either one of the city hotels or on one of the Nile cruise boats that ply the river. At any time, a score or more of these floating luxury hotels might be moored cheek-by-jowl next to each other along the pier just across from the temples of Luxor and Karnak. In either case, it's only about a 15 minute drive to the launching pad for some two dozen hot-air balloons that take to the skies each morning at sunrise. For a few years now, the early morning skies over Egypt’s world-famous Valley of the Kings and neighboring mountain desert have been studded with multi-coloured hot air balloons. They have become part of the landscape in Luxor, as much a must-do activity for holidaymakers as visiting the area’s remarkable temples and tombs. In addition to fly over the famous Colossi of Memnon statues and Hatshepsut’s Mortuary Temple at the west bank of Luxor.
