Dear All,
Below are some answers to the numerous questions we receive from our customers related to covid in Egypt.
FLYING TO HURGHADA AND THE NEWEST COVID 19 RELATED GUIDELINES.
A PCR test is not required if you provide an "accredited" covid 19 vaccination certificate, showing that you were fully vaccinated (2 shots), 14 days or more, before arrival to Egypt. The certificate must be recognized by the health authorities in your country of origin and include a QR code.
If you didn't get your 2 vaccinations yet, you should provide a negative PCR test performed (max) 72 hours before departure.
The rules to fly back and enter your country of origin depend on your country of arrival. Since the last 2 weeks more and more European countries are not asking for a PCR test, nor implementing a quarantaine, on the condition that you are fully vaccinated.
In any case, PCR tests are readily available in Hurghada. They cost 30$. The tests are done in the building of the Ministry of Tourism, which is near to our marina.
COVID CASES IN EGYPT
The first week of july 2021, Egypt reports an average of 200 cases a day. This is on a population of 105 million!
From our personal point of view, Egypt handled the coronavirus better than most European countries. We certainly feel safer and more free here than in Europe.
The strong sun rays, the young population and the fact that people live outside here are factors that are certainly helping. If the covid cases are rising in Egypt, like a few months ago, Egypt
reacts promptly and closes schools, but businesses are still open here, though within strict time frames that are enforced and checked by the police. Masks are obligated on public transportation, banks and supermarkets and in all official government buildings.
The tourism sector is vaccinated with Astrazeneca. Most of them got their 2nd shot end of June. Any tourist related employees are not allowed to work without proof of vaccination. Till today all tourist related facilities can operate on a 50% occupation rate. This goes for hotels, boats, tourist buses, ....
