St Mary Tsion
Today, Hidar 21 in Ethiopian Calendar, followers of the Ethiopian church celebrate St Mary of Tsion in the city of Axum. Millions of Ethiopians travel to Axum for pilgrimage. Those who can not make it to Axum always celebrate in their own cities and towns. As in many other holidays of the Ethiopian Church, Replicas Ark of the Covenant will be taken from its Altar and carried by a priest for a solemn and colorful procession.

The battle of Adwa
In 1889 Menelik signed the treaty of wuchale with Italian .The Italian tried to swindle him by having two different versions of the treaty an Amharic one and an Italian one . with Article 17 reading different in each version . When Menelik realized that he had been cheated , he rejected the treaty and ceased all gratuities from the Italians .

The famous song,"Hoya Hoye" comes from a children s song chanted during the Buhe holiday.During this time in neighborhoods , people tie bundles of sticks together called chibo and set them on fire while singing songs.Usually once the boys finish singing "Hoya Hoye" the owner of thehome will give them bread called "mulmul."

On the way to Jinka

Bena Tribes are neighbors with the Hamer tribe and it is believed that the Bena actually originated from them centuries ago. They have wonderful markets in Key Afer and Jinka are often visited by them and the Bena practice ritual dancing and singing. The men often have their hair dressed up with a colorful clay cap that is decorated with feathers.

The Dorze are a relatively small group close to Arba Minch, mostly known for their construction capacity. They have, for 100s of years apparently, built fabulously tall houses, from a bamboo frame woven together with grass and banana leaves. Very attractive structures, all the more so because they do not require a central supporting pole inside, and can simply be picked up and put down somewhere else, should the family move, or should the termites eat too much of the bottom of the structure in one particular place

Stick fighting
The Suri have a fierce culture, with a preference for stick fighting, also known as Donga. It’s part of an important ritual, where young men from various Suri villages duel with sticks. There are several referees present to ensure that all rules are followed; it’s not allowed to hit anyone on the ground, for example. At the end of the battles, it’s customary to arrange marriages between parents of the young boy and a girl who has chosen him as her favorite duelist.
