Socialising is more than a pastime in Ethiopia–it's a way of life.
In cities all across, cafes overflow with youngsters gossiping endlessly about fashion; delalas boasting of their multi-million birr transactions; and recent immigrants from Eritrea in heated debate about politics.
Zest for life is equally compelling as you head out of the cities, and venture into the smallest of towns, deep valleys or mountain tops. It may be over a coffee, a shot of ouzo (katikala), tej be brle, or just around the camp fire, even villagers have become passionate about life, immersed in discussions about technology or trends on social media.
The result is a country riddled with immense challenges, yet full of people loving life. It is a conundrum, but I love it.
