Meskel Festival is a memorial day of the finding of The True Cross, Cross of Jesus Christ was crucified, by Empress Helena, mother of Constantine the Great. Meskel, one of the most important spiritual carnival to the Ethiopian Orthodox Christians.

Lalibela, a famous for its rock hewn churches dating back 800 years, once the thriving and populous capital city of a medieval dynasty. Lalibela is one of Ethiopia’s holiest cities, which are sometimes called the “Eighth wonder of the world”. Physically erected from the rock in which they stand, each carved entirely out of a single block of granite with its roof at ground level these monolithic churches were originally thought to have been built in the 12th century during the reign of king Lalibela. Adventure Trip to Danakil Depression (Afar Triangle)

Itinerary

Day 1: Addis- Mekele- Hamede’Ela (144km)
Morning flight to Mekele. Drive to Hamedela over the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley system to the western highland. Lunch at Beraile town. Arrival at Hamede’Ela, see camel caravans passing against a backdrop of dramatic sunsets. Overnight camping

Day 2: Hamede’Ela- Dallol- Ab’ala (200km)
In the morning drive to Lake Asele and visit the thousands of camel caravan and the rock salt mining. Then drive further to Dallol Cobber Sink; the lowest spot on earth’s surface not covered by water (-116m below sea level) enjoy the spectacular view the dramatic and colorful geological formations caused by the hot springs rich in sulfur, potash, and salt. Then, drive back to the campsite for lunch. In the afternoon, drive to a small town Ab’Alla and overnight in Guest House

Day 3: Drive to Dodom - Erta’Alle (202 km)
After breakfast, drive to Dodom to visit the living Volcano Erta’Alle which means "smoking mountain” in the local Afar language. Lunch at Beraile. At Dodom, our vehicle will stops here with our equipments. Late afternoon, trek to the top volcanic mountain (3 hours trekking) night see the dramatic magma eruption at the crater of Erta’Alle Volcano. Dinner. Overnight camping

Day 4: Trek Back to Dodom- Drive to Mekele (252km)
In the early morning trek back to Dodom. Breakfast at Dodom. Drive to Afdera to visit Lake Afdera. Swim and relax and refreshment. Then drive back to Mekele. Overnight in hotel in Mekele

Day 5: Mekele visit- Flight to Addis
Breakfast in Hotel, Visit the palace of Empreror Yohannes and Tigrai people memorial monument. Lunch. Afternoon, transfer in to airport to fly back to Addis.
