Christmas 2019. Iridescent blue skies, no wind, no rain ( for the moment) no crowds, fabulous truffles, wonderful food, outrageously good wine, walks along country lanes through the fields and vines. That’s an experience!
That’s a holiday destination!

The levels of the canal had to be checked carefully. There was little gradient and gravity had to pull the water from the top pond to the bottom. That was the theory! Our fingers were crossed that it would work. It worked for the Suez Canal. David checked the levels every metre to be sure.

The garden was perfect. The grass was divine. I took a paint bomb and said follow me. Dig along the line that I am drawing on the grass. Fabien the gardener burst into tears. 'Please don't do this!'
I was sure that I knew what I was doing. Almost!

And of course- the Luberon is not just for summertime. Try something completely different. Winter in Provence. What better experience than to have a Christmas in the northern hemisphere. Cold brisk walks then rush in for a glass of champagne, oysters and smoked salmon.....well, not every day but one day a year it is truly fabulous. The living creche is in the neighbouring village and everyone wanders around bleary eyed and tired on the 25th as Christmas is celebrated here in France on 24th December with a late feast beginning at 10pm and often ending at 3am. A nap is required!

End of June - mid July is lavender season. Really this has to be on the bucket list. When the lavender is in bloom the scent is overpowering- but you sleep extremely well!
Everywhere is the same fabulous purple across the fields as far as the eye can see. Truly magical. And of course, we have our own lavender in the equally magical Parc.

The ponds and canal are teaming with aquatic life. Not convinced this frog is a prince in disguise but at the end of summer he is most certainly very fat from eating mosquito larvae. He eats the mosquitoes and the heron eats him. Ah the famous Circle of life!

Ah yes- just a few koi carp. Feed them and hear their little jaws snap in delight. Most of the time they lurk under the jetty hiding from the nasty heron that swoops overhead!

The Tour de France went through our village of St Saturnin les Apt in 2014. Months to set up. Hours to wait patiently as the helicopters whirl above. Blink! And it's gone.

Simply divine when the water irises come out in May. Hmm, so do the frogs, the koi carp hatch and the dragonflies are in abundance. Bees are buzzing, lavender is almost bursting out, the purple wisteria falls down over the pergola. It is too much for the senses!

There is a security shutter in place for the salt water heated pool 8m x 4m. Vineyards and open space far from neighbours and roads. This is a slice of paradise!

The second bedroom in the Hen House has two SuperSingle beds measuring 120cm x 200cm. Very large and comfortable. There is an additional WC on the landing between the two bedrooms.Again, air conditioning comfort.
All linen, towels and all requirements are supplied to make your stay comfortable and fuss free.

The living room in the Hen House looks out across your own pond with cascade and koi carp. Ah yes, there are millions of frogs but very ecologically balanced, they eat the mosquitoes !

The Old Hen House/ L'Ancien Poulailler sleeps 4 people in two bedrooms. Absolutely everything you require for the perfect holiday. Pool is opened May 1 and is heated until Mid June when it becomes too hot for heating.

Pierre de Ronsard roses in bloom here there and everywhere. They like the soil and sun. Simply breathtaking displays everywhere in May.

Two enormous ponds- an easy rival to Monet's waterlily garden in Giverny. Prolific water lilies, dancing dragonflies and of course, teaming with koi carp. Heaven!
