The Abergavenny Baker

The Abergavenny Baker Eat, drink, chat, laugh & treat yourself to a full day of baking breads from around the world in my lovely new bakery school £125 per person.

Classes are held for a maximum of 8 bakers allowing plenty of opportunity for discussion, hands on experience and questions. The day starts in the kitchen at 9.30am – with views up over the vineyard to the peak of the Sugarloaf Mountain. We’ll drink coffee and discuss the science that transforms a few simple ingredients into beautiful breads.

10am Roll up your sleeves and start mixing, kneading,

shaping and baking. I usually choose three different doughs to make four or five types of bread and you’ll have the option of working alone or in pairs. Late morning coffee and the first taste of your freshly baked bread.

2pm lunch

4.30pm aim to finish

Armed with your bag of bread, recipe cards, knowledge and experience you will leave The school as a baker (no longer a mere follower of recipes) – with the confidence to bake at home. The day finishes at 4.30pm. All ingredients, equipment, recipes and refreshments are included. Just bring a smile to give Rachael when you arrive!

NEW CLASSES planned for 2024 "Food to Feel Good About" inspired by a month in Goa earlier this year.

Combining ordinary ingredients from your regular weekly shop with a twist of the unusual and exotic - creating fresh, deliciously simple food to fill your tummies and feed your souls.

I'm hoping to find local producers at the Spring Fair who will supply both the ordinary and the extra-ordinary ingredients for the Vietnamese, Goan and Korean classes I have planned. Details to follow...

Roscan de Reyes : Spanish Christmas bread. Soft and sweet, flavoured with orange and oh so pretty 😍

Traditionally, a tiny ceramic king and a fava bean are baked into the loaf. Whoever finds the king is crowned and treated like royalty for the rest of the day. The finder of the bean has to buy next years Roscan loaf!

I think David was pretty pleased with his baking skills 😃

It's a good thing Blorenge rhymes with Orange in this photo! It's looking very autumnal around Abergavenny at the moment with the oranges and browns of the trees blending into the mountainsides of the Bannau Brycheiniog / Brecon Beacons.

Thanks to .studio for the photo. Chris is also helping to organise the popular St. John's Square & Nevill Street Christmas market on the 9th December, one of many great festive events coming up in Abergavenny.

There's fondue nights at The Angel Hotel & Oak Room Restaurant and Christmas baking with The Abergavenny Baker, plus numerous craft and festive markets across the area.

3 years after I set up the cookery school in my home kitchen I was nominated for, and won, Best Cookery School in the Food Awards Wales 2018. I was SO EXCITED I only just made it up the stairs to the stage to collect my award!

Here we are 5 years later... and I've been nominated again. If you have a few moments to fill in the form and vote for me I'd be so pleased. It would be a fantastic boost to the cookery school to win the award again.
