(40)

Brynarth Country Cottages are nestled in rural splendor amongst some of the most stunning scenery in the Ystwyth Valley. They are situated within the beautiful countryside in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains. This 17th Century farmhouse and it’s barns have been tastefully and sympathetically renovated in keeping with Brynarth’s age and time in history, with 2 acres of bluebell woods include

d within it’s 8 acres of grounds. Brynarth is ideally located to access not only the many attractions in Ceredigion and it’s beautiful coastline, The Ystwyth and Elan Valleys but is close enough to easily enjoy the bustling coastal towns of Aberystwyth, Aberaeron and New Quay. We are mid-way between the towns of Aberystwyth and Lampeter and are an ideal place to stay if you are visiting either Aberystwyth or Lampeter University - indeed we are a favoured haunt of many of the students’ parents who prefer not to stay in the town. This area is a paradise for walking offering numerous paths, forestry tracks and bridleways, as well as more challenging routes to cater for more extreme walkers, all within easy reach of Brynarth. Cyclists can follow dedicated cycle-paths and byways that pass directly through this area and are free from heavy traffic with breathtaking views. You can join the Ystwyth Trail half a mile from Brynarth, this family friendly trail is traffic free with a gentle terrain. We also have secure storage to lock your cycles up at night. Here at Brynarth we are happy to welcome motorcyclists, as well as a large car park we offer secure, covered parking for motorcycles. Brynarth hosts an abundance of wildlife, including regular fly-pasts by red kites, successfully re-populating this area of Mid-Wales, we are in an ideal location to access many Nature Reserves offering spectacular landscapes and wildlife in their natural habitat, Cors Ian Nature Reserve is 400 yards from us. There are many different paths to take and seats upon which to sit and read, or simply enjoy a drink whilst the sun sets in the perfect peace and quiet. Crystal clear spring water comes down from the mountains to supply Brynarth even through the driest of summers. A two and a half acre wood is a good place to hide away and in May becomes a blanket of bluebells. If you are looking for an escape from the hurly burly of city life or are in need of rejuvenating yourself in a caring and warm atmosphere and nurturing surroundings then look no further.

Brynarth is back! We have had the privilege of living in this incredible corner of Wales over the last six months and we are already in love with it. We’d like to thank James, Stuart & Brian for all their amazing efforts to make Brynarth such a special place – your spirit certainly lives on here. We also appreciate that many previous guests hold Brynarth close to your hearts and want to thank you for your contribution to making the Guest House so successful.

We’re a family of four who share a love of nature and a wish to preserve the magic here for future generations. We wanted to change the concept so that guests can enjoy holidays here in a different way. We’ve renovated parts of the farmhouse and the barn and now can offer them as two separate self-contained holiday lets (photos below). We’ve added a biomass heating system to reduce our impact on the local environment. We hope that guests can now stay longer and have a different form of holiday experience at Brynarth. The holidays cottages can also be booked together, offering guests the opportunity to book large parties for holidays here. We can understand that there may be some disappointment of losing the social side of Brynarth (and the open bar!) – so we plan to light open fires in the garden every week during the summer so that guests can join us roasting marshmallows below the beautiful star-filled sky.

We’ve already had a lot of bookings since we opened this week – so if you’d like to book your stay please book direct through our website www.brynarth.co.uk or email us on [email protected]

We look forward to welcoming you back,

All the best, Gareth, Melanie & Family + Trevor (our old & friendly farm cat!)

It's time to say good-bye

After 9 amazing years here at Brynarth it's time to move on.
It's been an absolute privilege to have been able to live here, we've met some wonderful people and made many friends... thank you for being part of the dream.

Our next journey takes us to Lynton in North Devon where we are excited to be taking over Southcliffe, Lynton and can't wait to start our next adventure.

We hand the baton over to Gareth and Melanie and wish them every success and happiness in their new life here at Brynarth.

About Brynarth...

‘Brynarth’ means ‘Bear Hill’ in Welsh.

We have been very lucky in that a previous owner had extensively researched the history of Brynarth and its occupants.

Brynarth itself is believed to date back to the 1680’s when it was a working farm of around 160 acres, including some of the smaller cottages nearby which were tenanted out. Some of these are just ruins now – and some are lived in by our neighbours!

The land was farmed by a variety of owners for the next 250 years or so until it was bought by a local couple from one of the local villages (Bronant) who started the process of selling off the land in parcels that didn’t stop until it got down to just under 8 acres or so, as it is today.
