We are delighted to introduce our new toiletries from . They are plant based and sustainable. It’s difficult for a livestock farmer to mention the ‘V’ word , but they are that as well! Some of our regular holiday guests have recently partnered with natrlskincare.co.uk and they have kindly created some personalised Manor House Farm Cottages packaging for us. We are using their hand-wash and body-wash in the cottages, and you can visit their website to see the full range of products.

This award recognises our off-grid renewable energy solutions, our restoration of heritage features on the farm, our contribution to preserving rare and native breeding livestock, our traditional low input farming practices and our production of high welfare farm foods.

There are lots of lovely craft courses this spring across Derbyshire. I made this needle felted bunny last weekend
Loads of exciting new courses ranging from candle making, foraging and jewellery making then there are drawing workshops amongst other events

This is in recognition of our off grid renewable energy production, our restoration of heritage features on the farm (including our wonderful barn conversions), our contribution to preserving rare and native breed livestock, our traditional low input farming practices and our production of high welfare farm produce.

Last weekend we celebrated the completion of renovation work on an old historic feature of our farm. Funded through the Farming In Protected Landscapes scheme and with the assistance of Peak Park, Smith & Roper Architects and R M Eaton stonemasons, the project saw the disused Sheldon water tank brought back to its original glory (minus the tank).
40 friends, neighbours and those working on the project enjoyed an informative talk by Brian Greasley about the history of water supply to our small remote upland village. A local charity Aquabox who supply water pump kits to disaster areas, also explained how their charity works. We raised enough money to fund an Aquabox community filter that will provide clean water to 400-500 people 💧 👍

Don’t forget to watch the new series of Fletchers Family Farm starting today on ITV at 11.30am. Kelvin and Liz visited us earlier this year to share experiences of starting farming from scratch with no experience or family history.
Today we are starting to prepare for tupping time so making sure the ewes and shearlings have good feet and no worms

The cottage is super warm with underfloor heating and a log burner housed in the 1750 original fireplace so whatever the weather is doing, you need go nowhere for a very cozy time this autumn and winter

It’s feeling like the end of summer what with the evenings getting a little colder and new terms beginning BUT we now stock the most delicious ice cream from Matlock Meadows Farm. We think that they will make a tasty little treat even once fires roar in our cottages this autumn 🍂

School holidays has brought us the loveliest of families this summer who have all loved meeting the animals. Our 3 children are children no more so it’s absolutely lovely to spend time with our younger visitors and introduce them to Dotty & Daisy, Douglas and Doogle as well as the pigs, chickens ducks and sheep.

We have just heard that our very own Suffolk cross wool has been processed and ready for collection from so now I need to decide what to make with the precious fibre

Today it was a huge pleasure to welcome Kelvin and Liz Fletcher
to share our experiences of being new to farming in the Peak District. Kelvin has had an incredible career in Emmerdale for 20 years, won Strictly Come Dancing and starred with Liz in Fletchers on the Farm on BBC 2 last year, but we have an enormous amount in common having moved from town to countryside only a few years ago. It’s mad how discussing grass growth and sheep can bring so much pleasure!

We were delighted to have Samantha of .travels to stay with us this week. She experienced the Monsal trail (just five minute drive away and perfect for cycling and walking or running on as it’s a car free disused railway line), as well as our lovely traditional unspoiled Derbyshire village. We are in the Peak District National Park with the most spectacular views, walks from the door which can be enjoyed whilst staying in a luxury cottage, log burners and farm to form produce. Come and see for yourself!

Such a beautiful day warranted a trip out. Just 15 mins away is a part of the High Peak Trail which not only is fantastic for cycling but we discovered 2 special sites. The first one is a reconstructed lime kiln financed by Farming in Protected Landscapes which is a DEFRA funded programme. We ourselves have a lime kiln in disrepair so we were fascinated to see how it would have looked originally. The second site is Minninglow, the most important Neolithic chambered tomb in the Peak. There is also a stone circle so quite a fascinating historic site.

Feeling really quite Christmassy here on the farm with over 12 real potted Christmas trees dotted around site. Living trees retained from one year to the next we think are a very environmentally friendly way to celebrate the festive season 🎄🎄🎄
(Still nurturing my little dream of a Christmas tree farm!!)
