🍂🕷️ Double, double toil and trouble! How are you celebrating Halloween to make your cauldron bubble? 🎃🕸️

🍁 Did you know why is Halloween celebrated on 31 October? The ancient Celts divided their year into light and dark. The end of October marked the start of the dark half of the year. This half-way point was viewed as magical because it was believed that the veil between worlds was weakened 🍁 Spooky!

Tucked away in the hills of the Brecon Beacons is Dan yr Ogof, one of Wales most fascinating, natural attractions 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The caves date back 350 million years and you can walk through and learn about their history and fantastic discovery.

We definitely recommend a visit, with its 3 caves, dinosaur Jurassic park, Iron Age Village, Mr Morgan’s Victorian animal farm, Shire Horse Centre and play area, there’s plenty to entertain all the family 🦕

When visiting Brecon, we definitely recommend a visit to Hay-on-Wye.

Known as the first Book Town in the world, this local tourist town has become famous for its numerous secondhand and antiquarian bookshops.

Have a stroll around Hay Castle, the quirky independent shops or try one of the many cafes or restaurants for a bite to eat 📚 Hay is such a beautiful town with heaps of history!

Today is World Bee Day! 🐝

World Bee Day is recognised by the UN to raise awareness to the plight of Bees due to the use of pesticides and destruction of their natural habitat 🌼

Bees have such an important role as around a third of the World's food supply depends on pollinating insects like the honeybees 🌾

So, how can we all help?

🐝 By planting a diverse set of nectar bearing plants, which flower at different times of the year 🌷
🐝 Buying honey and other hive products locally or from your nearest local beekeeper 🍯
🐝 Raise awareness to the importance of bees to your children
🐝 Avoid pesticides or fungicides in the garden 🐞🐌

We love flowers here and have planted our own wildflower border at Rose View Cabin which is coming along beautifully again this year 🌸 🌺

It’s lovely watching the garden border coming alive with a splash of colour 🌺 The herbs, especially the fennel are growing like crazy and the Grannys bonnets (Aquilegia) and Oxeye Daisy will be putting in an appearance by next week! 🌸

I love the month of May, as for us, it’s watching our little Apple trees, planted last year, starting to blossom with their new buds. Listening to the cheerful chirping of birds lining up for the bird feeder and spotting new colours coming out in our wildflower border 🌺 🌸🪻🌼

☔️ Whilst rain may not make for the ideal conditions for a walk, we definitely recommend having a walk around our local Brecon Museum instead! It’s easy to find (attached to the Library) and it’s free for all who visit!

Come and sit in the Court of Assizes, learn about The Lost Village of Mynydd Epynt or just take a stroll around the Art Gallery 🖼️

Today is arguably the best Tuesday of the year where it’s quite acceptable to consume your body weight in crepes & chocolate sauce without judgement! Although, my favourite is banana with maple syrup 🥞🥞🥞

We love to take our own dogs, Bailey and Rosie with us on holiday and on days out as they are family too 🐾

Here in the Brecon Beacons we have so many beautiful dog friendly walks, Mountain walks and outside spaces to choose and some of our favourite ‘go to’ places for a day out with our furry companions include Garwnant, Pendine Sands, Porthcawl, Aberystwyth, Brecon Visitor Centre, Pembrey Park, Ogmore-by-Sea to name just a few!

We definitely recommend finishing off a nice walk with a dog friendly ice cream from our local Llanfaes Dairy Ice Cream 🍦 Human ice creams are pretty delicious too! 🍨

Rose View Cabin welcomes dogs of all shapes, size and breed and has a private secure garden overlooking fields and offers walks from the door!
Our 4 legged guests also receive a doggy welcome basket, treats and holiday tags to wear while staying with us 🐶
