Hello folks. Sam and I have been invited to the Bushcraft Show by the lovely Mark and Helen of .
We will be there on Saturday for the day.
No special plans, if you can find us, come and have a brew, chat leather or just say hi.
I will have odd socks on so you can easily find me, Sam is easy to spot.
We a really looking forward to it and happy to roll with the day.

What a fantastic three days I have just had.
The extremely talented Katy from .leather came up for a tub stitching course.
Whilst she brought a very credible skillset with her, bridle maker and leatherworker of 10 years, she had never made tubs or box stitched before.
When training in something new, the first of anything rarely looks good, not so in this case. She absolutely nailed her first tub.
I see great things in store for this young lady.
It was especially rewarding as this was the first tub made from lyveden leather from .est1919 so we now know that works!

With the Box stitching course planned for later this year, I thought it was a good idea to have some new jigs.
All the bells and whistles on this set.
These will make some of the more challenging tasks much easier.

This is an Art Deco box, all in leather, all cut and stitched by hand all made by Sarah of
An awesome piece of work, I think you’ll agree.
The leather is all Lamport from .est1919.

Had a fantastic visit to .est1919 today.
It was supposed to be a business meeting, but was more like catching up with friends.
It was really exciting to see all the new leathers Metropolitan is getting in and to hear their ideas for the future.
I had a good play with the new clicker press and splitter from Druckel, a good first impression! They are certainly solid enough and neither have any rattle or play.

even managed to find the Conceria II Ponte Bellies.
Not surprising given the colour choice!
It’s never been a cut I’d choose, that being said… I’ve never seen belly tanned like this before.
I will have to use it and let you know.

More to come!!!!!

HOW COOL IS THIS!!??
Anyone who has been to the workshop knows I like a longer iron.
It gives a straighter line helping with consistency.
have just sent me this beautiful 14 tooth iron in 3.85mm.
What a lovely bit of kit!!!!!
So looking forward to using this later today.
Thank you to the Crimson Hides Team, another thing of beauty.

Had an awesome day yesterday with Martin of making lace for the latest whips.
Cutting, stretching, tapering and bevelling.
Yes! We got the knack of bevelling tapered laces.
We put the sticks under a bit of tension though! That is 1 inch thick oak!!
Just need to get on with the plaiting now.

Don’t forget to tune into BBC 2 tonight at 18:30 for David and Jays Touring Toolshed.
The intention was to teach the guys how to make tubs, but it was more like a get together for three London lads.
They are an awesome couple of blokes and it was a pleasure to be a part of.
Of note… I had absolutely no input on the voice over.

Good morning folks,
A bit of news I’ve been sitting on for a while.
Recently I was asked to go and give a masterclass in leatherwork for an upcoming BBC TV program, David and Jay’s Touring Toolshed.
This was filmed back in June on one of the hottest days of last year.
During the day, I got to teach Sir David Jason and Jay Blades how to make a round leather box.
It was an awesome day with two of the most lovely blokes you could ever wish to meet.
What it comes out like remains to be seen, for us, it was just three London lads talking about tools.
Well… the program is due to air on 22nd January on BBC 2 at 6:30, it will also be available on the iPlayer.
I am on Episode 9, so be sure to keep an eye out for it.

If it looks good, I couldn’t have done it without my ever present and invaluable Sam.

Not leather related, but it is bear related so it counts.
The amazing got this old polar bear a trip to play with Red Pandas for my birthday recently. Sam, thank you. It was incredible, touching and humbling to be so close to one of nature’s CUTEST animals. An encounter I will treasure.
So… I had to share some level 11 cuteness!!!
Yes… the dial did go to 11.
What a fantastic day we had.

Sam and I had a fantastic time at the Walsall Leather Skill Centre on Wednesday talking about all things stitching and the application of it.
It’s an amazing workshop run and funded by .saddlershall and the day was hosted for their scholarship program.
We met a lovely group of people from all levels on their journey, be it saddlery, bridle work or leather work.
A big thank you goes out to the incredibly talented instructor of the centre, Christer for being so welcoming of us into his workshop and the awesome coffee.
Thank you to for hosting the event and inviting me to talk and thank you to .saddlershall for making this space possible and bringing learning about leather back to Walsall. This is a significant thing you have done.
This is a fantastic learning space in the heart of the city, it is after all, the home of saddlery.
If you are of a mind to begin saddlery, this is the place you need to be.

Those who have taken a course in the old workshop in winter can testify how cold it used to get in there.
No such fear in the new workshop… however… the bacon on the go cannot always be guaranteed.
