πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸŒ³ These small walks with big views are just a taste of what the Peak District has to offer πŸŒ„ πŸ₯Ύ

Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a casual stroller, there's a route to suit every taste and ability level. So lace up your boots, pack a picnic, and prepare to be enchanted by the beauty of England's first national park πŸ₯ͺπŸ₯€πŸ§

1) One such gem is the walk to Mam Tor, aptly nicknamed the "Shivering Mountain" due to its unstable shale and gritstone layers. Despite its modest height of 517 meters (1,696 feet), reaching the summit offers panoramic vistas that stretch across the rolling hills and verdant valleys below. The ascent begins gently, winding through picturesque farmland before gradually steepening as you approach the summit. As you crest the final rise, the landscape unfolds before you in all its glory, with the dramatic ridges of Kinder Scout to the north and the sprawling Edale Valley to the south. On a clear day, you can even spot the distant silhouette of the Pennines on the horizon.

2) For a more tranquil experience, the walk around Derwent Reservoir provides a serene escape amidst breath-taking scenery. The circular route hugs the shoreline of the reservoir, offering tranquil views of the water framed by woodlands and rugged moorland. Keep an eye out for the remnants of the submerged village of Derwent, which was flooded in the 1940s to create the reservoir. As you stroll along the peaceful paths, you'll be treated to glimpses of wildlife and soothing sounds of water lapping against the banks. It's the perfect spot for a leisurely picnic or a moment of quiet reflection.

3) If you're short on time but still craving panoramic vistas, the viewpoint at Curbar Edge delivers big views with minimal effort. A short stroll from the car park brings you to the edge of the escarpment, where you'll be rewarded with sweeping views across the Derbyshire countryside. The rugged gritstone cliffs drop away sharply, providing an unobstructed panorama that stretches for miles in every direction. On a clear day, the distant spires of Chatsworth House can be seen nestled among the trees, adding a touch of grandeur to the scene.

🌳 Bamford Village 🌳

Bamford, once a mill village, is surrounded by fascinating places to explore. A hike up Bamford Edge is highly recommended, offering stunning views of the village and the breath-taking Ladybower Reservoir below and Howden Reservoirs in the Upper Derwent Valley. These reservoirs are perfect for walking, fishing, wild swimming, or cycling. Rich in history, Ladybower was famously used during World War II for practising the β€œDam Busters” low-level flights.

Nearby, Sickleholme Golf Club is a welcoming and friendly spot, just a short walk from the River Derwent, where visiting groups are always invited. A short drive away, you’ll find popular Peak District destinations such as Bakewell, Castleton, Hope Valley, Edale, Hathersage, and Chatsworth.

🏑 Stay at The Derwent to explore all this on your door step.
