IRONMAN Wales

We have availability if you would like to come to watch….

More than 2,800 people are set to take on the IRONMAN Wales triathlon in Tenby. The 12th edition of the sold-out event will see athletes from across the globe descend on Pembrokeshire on September 22.

This year, the race is an age-group only competition. The race offers qualifying spots for the 2025 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.

Athletes will face a two-loop 2.4-mile swim course on Tenby North Beach, followed by a 112-mile bike course through Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and a four-loop 26.2-mile run course.

"This race has become a must-do for IRONMAN athletes all over the world, which we are very proud of.

Racing in Wales is always special as the spectator support is unrivalled.”

Our first ‘Freesia Cottage’ guests departed this morning and the first review is in…
“Probably the best dog friendly accommodation we have stayed at.”

Our new cottage (‘Freesia’), is now open for business…!
It sleeps 5 people in 3 bedrooms (one double bedroom, one single bedroom and one room with bunk-beds).
An upstairs bathroom - a downstairs shower room - a spacious lounge with room for a dining table - a breakfast kitchen, and a large, fully enclosed, dog friendly garden.
Currently plenty of autumn and winter availability - including Christmas/New Year and booking now open for 2025. 👍

While staying at Owl Farm there are some great boat trips locally. The dolphins of Cardigan Bay, can often be seen along with seals and many seabirds. Sometimes there are rarities such as Wilbur the walrus who became a bit of a local celebrity last year, or the occasional passing whale. This week some guests were treated to the sighting of a very rare sunfish in the sea.
We highly recommend the excellent and highly regarded boat trips from A Bay to Remember (see image) which depart several times a day locally from Gwbert, or the more sedate trips (dog friendly) from New Quay Harbour.
And for those who don’t wish to venture onto the water, sometimes just sitting eating fish and chips on the quayside in New Quay you can enjoy sightings of the dolphins close by, and the seals, dolphins and seabirds can often be seen from the wonderful coastal paths.

Craft Festival Wales - at Cardigan Castle

Another local annual event that brings lots of crafters and artists to the castle in town, exhibiting their goods for sale… Lots to buy, (think of it as early Christmas shopping!) and a chance to look around the castle at the same time.
Friday - Sunday September 6th 8th 10am-5pm

***Owl Farm Horse & Pony Rescue***
As many of you will know, Ian & Hayley devote a lot of time and money, to their Horse Rescue initiatives here at the farm.
People who came and stayed with us over Spring Bank Holiday and during Easter, got to meet some of our latest intake of sorry souls and we have had a number of enquiries, as to how Misty in particular (a lovely horse, who was seriously in need of help!) is getting on.
Misty has been in our care for 6 months now, and we are happy to report that she is like a different horse already... She is going from strength to strength, and although she has a fair way to go yet, we are delighted with her progress so far..!

This last week! Hayley has been using a new App on her iPhone, called ‘Merlin’. It identifies bird species by their songs and calls. In the first couple of days using it, while out and about on the farm doing her animal duties, the app listed 41 different birds…

SUMMER BREAKS

We still currently have various dates for a summer break available in Buttercup (see images).

If you are a large group, or require a hot tub, then there’s also still some availability for June, July and September in Elmtree and Oaktree, plus one week of August left in Oaktree (w/c Saturday 17 August).

We will also soon be launching the newly refurbished Freesia Cottage (sleeps up to 5 people )from the start of July….so there’s currently plenty of availability in this super, property.

Spent a while this afternoon, watching our resident Little Egret battling the wind… we weren’t really sure, whether he was having fun riding the waves, or simply trying to get somewhere….
