The Crannog have special events that take place regularly at this site. These events feature talented artists, musicians, skilled craft workers, and specialists. Alongside the team of Iron Age guides, they work together to bring the past to life for adults and children of all ages.

The restaurant is named after the beautiful circular walk nearby, which takes in the River Lednock, Laggan Wood and Melville’s monument. The walk is well-known and popular among locals and visitors. The history of Baird Monument! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
It seems a great time to share this with you as you can spot its grandeur from the windows of our new property, Upper Lochlane Barn, rising skywards through the trees.

Unfortunately, the path from the road to the monument is unmanaged; locals report tree fell and high nettles in warmer months. However, it is a beautiful sight and deserves its story to be told.

If you're not fussed with nature's obstacles on the last stretch, there are several ways to reach it. Start your walking adventure from Lady Mary Walk in Crieff; leave your vehicle at MacRosty Park car park. This scenic 4-hour circular walk reveals unmatched views and takes you through lush landscapes along the River Earn. It is a firm local favourite and is beautiful at any time of year.

General Sir David Baird owned the Trowan Estate, where the monument has stood tall since 1832. This 25.6m high grey granite obelisk honoured Baird’s character and victories. Fun fact: it was struck by lightning in 1878 and later repaired! It was the work of William Stirling (1772 - 1838).

Lady Baird greatly admired her late husband, erecting the monument to honour his memory. She later built a village named St. David’s in Madderty. The village was established in 1832 and consisted of a row of houses, some small and some two stories high, each with enough land for cow grazing. There’s a road leading to the village from Crieff Road, known as “the Lady’s Road”, in honour of Lady Baird.

If not, you’re missing out on an unforgettable experience at the Wallace Monument near Stirling! This Victorian masterpiece pays homage to Scotland’s national hero and is a must-visit attraction during your stay at a Sleeping Betty Holiday Home. 🏡

The Wallace Monument stands tall at 220 feet and offers breathtaking views of the historic site of Stirling Bridge, where Wallace led the Scottish army in its fight for independence against the English forces. Inside the monument, visitors can explore various exhibits and learn about the life and legacy of William Wallace. The Hall of Heroes is a particularly impressive gallery featuring busts of other Scottish heroes such as Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots.

🪜But the real highlight of any visit to the Wallace Monument is climbing its 246-step spiral staircase to reach the ‘crown’ at the top. From there, you can take in the stunning panoramic views of the Scottish countryside and even get up close and personal with Wallace’s battle sword!

OUR NEWEST ADDITION TO THE PORTFOLIO!

No 7 Drummond Street was the first cottage built in Comrie back in 1786!
So, if you fancy staying in an original piece of history that's over 200 years old, then No 7 is the property for you. This wee cottage oozes so much charm you won't want to leave. 🙂

With guest experience and comfort at the forefront, this beautiful cottage underwent a complete refurbishment in 2021. The property is the ideal base to explore the famous village of Comrie and the surrounding beautiful Strathearn.

The 2 bedroom cottage is kept cosy with modern electric heating and a super wood-burning stove situated in the lounge.

Both bedrooms are upstairs; one is a twin and the other a double. The bedrooms have all the amenities required to make your stay a memorable one.

Downstairs is a large shower room and open plan lounge/kitchen-diner.

The 200 year old cottage is on the street front, so that you will hear some noise from the road. However, during the night, the village becomes a ghost town just in time for going to bed (excluding Hogmanay when Comrie holds the famous Flambeaux).
The cottage has a modern, fully equipped large kitchen with a dining table that adequately accommodates 6 persons in case you fancy having some friends round for dinner whilst staying. What can I say about the bright, spacious, welcoming lounge with the wood-burning stove! We provide a welcome starter pack of logs, kindling and firelighters.

Yes, you can watch your Netflix or Amazon series on our TV at No7! Plus, SKY free view channels!

We also provide many books and board games during your stay, adding to your guest experience.

Due to the cottage's age and the original features that have been left, we feel these add to the charm of being perfectly imperfect. Outside, there is a slabbed patio area with a picnic bench and BBQ for guests to use. The garden isn't enclosed, so if you have dogs or young children, they must be supervised at all times. The garden area will be having more improvements made throughout this year, 2024.

✨HOGMANAY✨ - Bringing in the New Year in style!!

I invite all my lovely guests to Comrie’s most cherished Hogmanay tradition, the Flambeaux Procession. As a proud dweller of this wonderful village, I invite you to join us as we bid farewell to the old year and welcome in the New Year in style.

On December 31st, starting at 18.30 (see timetable) and celebrating through the night. At 23.30, in Melville Square, near the Royal Hotel, a dedicated group of Comrie’s finest will take up their role as torchbearers for the evening. They carry large torches on 3-meter-high poles wrapped with sacks soaked in burning fuel, known as the Flambeaux.

As the Flambeaux procession begins, the traditional ceilidh to celebrate the New Year also kicks off from Melville Square, where villagers and guests alike will be entertained with lively Scottish music and dancing.

The procession will snake its way through the streets of Comrie, led by our fantastic village Pipe Band, creating a mesmerising spectacle of light and sound that will enthral.

As the procession reaches the banks of the River Earn, the Flambeaux are ceremonially launched into the river, cleansing the village of all evil spirits and paving the way for a joyful and prosperous New Year ahead.

This is a night of much celebration and merriment for all who attend; a must-see event not to be missed. So join us in Comrie as we welcome the New Year in the most spectacular way possible, surrounded by warmth, love, and the spirit of community that makes our village truly unique.

Here I am, feeling the holiday spirit, wearing my snowflake glasses and Santa hat, out with my dogs, watching the sky for signs of Rudolph and his crew! 🦌
