Interesting local craft event

Is Saturday 10 August 2024 in your diary for a visit to our Dulverton Summer Craft Fair 2024 in the Town Hall, 10am - 3pm?

This will be our fifth event at the location, and always well worth some time attending to meet the many local stallholders with their fantastic range of high quality products.

Further to those already mentioned, we have the following with us for the day:

Half Acre Pottery : Jenny has been with us on the other occasions, and is always well received. She creates hand built pottery from a small studio in Williton on the edge of Exmoor.

Fossil Fanatic : George is with us for the first time, and is excited to be part of this popular event. From Bridgwater, George sells themed fossil excavation kits he's made - unearth your very own piece of dinosaur bone! Prefer to make your own? No problem, you can do that too with customisation available at shows only. He also offers a range of framed fossils, lucky dip bags, fossil themed prints, coasters and mugs.

Hjordis By Kirsten : Located close to ourselves near Morebath, Hjordis is the home of bespoke resin jewellery, creating one-off pieces that explore colour in new and exciting ways. Kirsten takes her inspiration from the natural world, the cosmos, and in fact anything that catches her eye, makes her go, “Ooo! Pretty!” and motivates her to spend time in her Devon studio creating jewellery with passion and a sense of joy. Mixing in other techniques including chainmaille and bead weaving, the results are always striking, unique, and very special. Custom orders and commissions accepted.

Cherry Tree Drawings : Another very popular stallholder at our events, Sue lives and works in East Devon.‎‎ ‎ She is a self taught artist, drawing realistic pet and wildlife portraits, and continues to develop her technique with pencils and pastels.‎‎ ‎
Capturing the personality and expression of an animal is something Sue takes pride in.‎‎ ‎All works are created within her home studio, usually working from photographs.‎‎ ‎
She works primarily in artist quality, lightfast coloured pencils which enable her to work to a high degree of realism.
‎Sue likes her art to be affordable for everyone and so her commissions are available in a variety of sizes to suit. Many of her drawings are also available as greetings cards ‎‎ and she'll have original art work, greetings cards, mugs, coasters, and more with her designs printed on them.‎‎

So, you see, another 4 stallholders you really will want to meet.

The fair will be on both floors - the entrance hall, and main hall - so please be sure to visit both. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and everyone is welcome - including dogs!

Please share.

🎉🎁🎂 Exmoor zoo turns 31🎉🎁🎂

Who would have thought 31 years ago the bird gardens would become Exmoor Zoological and Conservation Centre?

From 4 staff in 1993 to over 30 staff today, we’ve changed a lot over the years. The biggest changes for us have been becoming a Charity and our newest development on the lake along with walk through!

What memories do you have of the zoo from years gone by?

We’ll start you of…. Who remembers the Podge the Penguin who used to wonder around and frequently visited the men’s toilets?

Let the bus take the strain!

One of the most dog-friendly places on the planet in my opinion. In return, their humans ensure they are under control & respectful of the welcoming environment.

Exmoor National Park is a great place to take your dog for a walk. Pop into any of our National Park Centres, where dogs are always welcome and we can give you advice on where to walk and dog friendly places to eat and drink.
Please follow this advice for a safe and enjoyable visit to Exmoor.
🐾Keep your dog under close control so that it doesn’t scare livestock, wildlife or other people
🐾Clean up all dog poo and dispose of responsibly
🐾Dogs must be on a short lead between 1st March-31st July to protect lambs and young ground nesting birds
Thank you!

Random thought - my favourite cinema ever is this one! It seems I am not alone either. Great films, independently run by keen volunteers, tickets just £5.00 per person and you can even take your dog. Treat yourself to a visit.

Listed as one of the top 50 Cinemas: Can a cinema be any more picturesque? The available scientific metrics – our eyeballs, admittedly – say no. Quirky and characterful, this old converted Methodist chapel in the coastal village of Lynton in Devon feels a bit like a time capsule, taking you back to a time of Pathé newsreels, Ealing comedies and the once-romantic fug of cigarette smoke hanging over the stalls. Not that you’ll find any of those things these days. Instead, you’ll be pulled out of the reverie by the Dolby sound and modernised interior, with a 68-seat screen showing the latest releases to movie-hungry locals and holidayers. If you’re ever in the area, proprietor Bill Pryor promises the warmest of welcomes. Phil de Semlyen
