On Nicola's recent trip to Kenya, along with her family, she was invited to visit a local school where their eyes and hearts were opened to the challenges they face.
The headteacher shared the stark reality - while primary education is government-funded, secondary schooling is not. Not only that, the lack of provided lunches means many children go through their school day hungry.
Ol Lentille Lodge, where Nicola and her family stayed, is heavily involved with several of the schools on the conservancy. Through fundraising the lodge currently help provide lunch to the schools, which has significantly increased attendance, especially among girls.
This in particular allowed Nicola to see how visiting these places and investing in the local economy really does help the community.
This experience has not just been an eye-opener but also a call to action.
