We adventure into remote, high-latitude waters inspired by great, modern-day explorers. Your expedition voyage is divided into five legs.

Join us as Expedition Crew for one or more of five legs onboard 68-foot yachts for an exhilarating voyage skirring the stark rugged coastline, ice-fields and more.... You may choose to do one leg, combine several, or complete all of the five legs in the voyage. The 4,820 nautical mile round trip will take an estimated eight weeks during the height of summer with crew arriving or departing at the c

hangeover ports en route, leaving Gosport on July 1 2022. Adventure sailing is as much about your experience above and below deck as the destinations visited. You will be exploring some of the most remote, pristine waters on the planet, while honing your sailing skills on passage. As a member of the crew team you can also take on a key role such as helping prepare tasty, nutritious and hot meals, as team videographer, or navigating the stars under the magical night sky. Sailing primarily under the power of wind, a truly unstoppable source of energy, the natural world may come strikingly close to your yacht. During each leg, while the yacht is moored, you’ll have the opportunity to explore closer to shore, and the extraordinary ice-scapes of the Icelandic and Greenland coasts. Expect to see Arctic Bowhead Whales, Polar Bears along the East Greenland coast, Arctic Fox, possibly Walrus, Arctic ringed seal of course, fish and birdlife. So have your camera ready. Ikateq / Bluie East Two 🛩️

Our crew on Leg 4 of the SKIRR Adventures expedition explored the remnants of Bluie East Two, the old American Airbase that brings history to life in the rugged wilderness of East Greenland.

Once a vital WWII airfield, it played a key role in transatlantic flights, connecting North America and Europe. Today, these rusted vehicles and decaying structures stand as stark reminders of a different era, contrasting sharply with the surrounding untouched landscapes.

Efforts are underway to clean up Bluie East Two and many other derelict WWII sites scattered across the country.

We set off on Leg 4 of the SKIRR Adventures Expedition today, sailing from Isafjordur across the Arctic Circle to explore Greenland's eastern coast before crossing to Iceland's Vestmannaeyjar archipelago and ending in Reykjavik.

Along the way, the crew will encounter stunning landscapes, incredible wildlife, and the unique culture of the Arctic.

Arctic wildlife spottings! 🦊🐋

Our expedition crew has encountered some incredible creatures so far, such as redshanks, which are often found foraging along the coastal wetlands of the Arctic tundra. They’ve also spotted orcas, in the ice floes, arctic foxes, and arctic terns, famous for their long migrations and often found diving for fish along the coastlines.

Leg 2 of the SKIRR Adventures expedition starts today! The crew will head to Tobermory for a quick refresher sail and refuel before setting off for the beautiful Vestmannaeyjar islands located south of the coast of Iceland. The final destination of Leg 2 is Reykjavik, Iceland.

SKIRR Leg 1: Gosport - Oban ✅

Leg 1 has been a perfect mix of moderately heavy weather, stunning wildlife, and local excursions. 🌊

The SKIRR expedition crew has arrived in Oban, having explored Cowes, Brixham, Plymouth, Falmouth, Dublin, and Tobermory, where they immersed themselves in local culture at each stop. 🍻

A few days of exploration in Oban and they are off again for Leg 2. 🤩

Meet the Leg 1 Sailing Team - Emily, Sacha and Mike.

Emily Caruso - Skipper
Emily is an exceptional skipper with an MCA Master 200 and Yacht Master Ocean qualifications. With her background as a Clipper Race Training Skipper, RYA Instructor, and previous SKIRR Skipper she brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to the helm.

Sascha Bonus - First Mate
Sascha’s passion for sailing has been a constant thread throughout her life. With experience as Race Crew in the 2013-14 and 2015-16 editions of the Clipper Race, she’s no stranger to the challenges of the open sea. Also a regular Clipper Race Training Mate, Sascha brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role and having heard all about it from those who have already been on SKIRR she is excited to be taking part herself.

Mike Brien - Second Mate
Mike is a highly experienced sailor having circumnavigated on the Clipper 2015-16 Race on board the Garmin team. After competing, he started work in the Clipper Race Maintenance Team as Fleet Electrical Engineer and also stepped in as First Mate on the 2019-20 edition for three races.

Covering approximately 685 nautical miles, the adventure begins in Gosport, Portsmouth. From there, the crew sail to Falmouth, make a stop in Port Ellen, and then head to the picturesque Tobermory. Finally, they will complete the leg in beautiful Oban.
