Brograve Mill is about a 30 minute walk along the river from Horsey Mill. Horsey itself is well worth a visit. It's a great, LOW COST day out easily accessible from our cottages.

The new Tide Bell is an absolute "must visit" on Happisburgh Beach. Listen as it rings in the waves as the crash and lap around it on every high tide.

As the year advances on, we should remember how absolutely glorious the autumn can be in this part of the world. This is the woods at Felbrigg around the area known as Lion's Mouth, just a mile or so outside of Cromer. Spectacular, isn't it?

In the distance, you can see the mill at Weybourne and just beyond is the sea. The land here is not the flat area that too many people associate with Norfolk. North Norfolk is a little hilly with coastal cliffs, inland inclines and amazing views. This shot is from Sheringham Park, a National Trust garden just outside the town of Sheringham. It's a vast area of natural woodland, plantation and tended gardens with dells and more to explore, The rhododendrons are ancient here and glorious and it's easy to spend a whole day here.

Just a short drive from either The Old Post Office or Garth Cottage (Garth is 10 minutes closer) is Happisburgh. Locally, we call it Hazebro. The coast here is eroding at an alarming rate. The pillbox you see in the middle of this shot is within a couple of feet of the edge and is unlikely to be there in a year or two from now. And thus you get the idea that the lighthouse's days are also numbered. But, what a stunning location to visit. There's a car park by the lighthouse and the lighthouse itself is open to visitors on select summer weekends. The beach is sandy and, mostly, the waves are gentle. You can't ignore this wonderful place when you visit one of our cottages.

There's a number of wonderful woodlands to explore in North Norfolk from Bacton Woods (shown here and just a couple of miles from Garth Cottage) to the Great Wood in Blickling (National Trust), Felbrigg Woods, Foxley and so, so many others. One of my favourites is the heath and woodland adjoining Sheringham Park. Fantastic days out in nature, inexpensive and, so important at this time of year, shady.....

The North Norfolk coast is a fantastic place to explore. There's a coastal path the follows the entire coastline and when you get just about as North West as you can on it, you arrive at Thornham, a tiny fishing village with a harbour just yards from the open sea where the summer setting sun just makes things glow. It's a fantastic place and I don't want anybody thinking I walked the coast path to get here. There's a car park just 50 yards from this spot! This image was taken on 2nd July 2022 and we have availability in our cottages right now.

Thurne Mill at Sunset.

Thurne is a small village on the Norfolk Broads. There's an excellent pub and the mill is open at weekends during holiday season. It's also fully restored and fully working. It's well worth a visit.

The pretty coastal village of Cley (pronounced Cly) is just a short drive west from out cottages. The most prominent landmark here is the huge windmill which used to belong to a member of James Blunt's family. The village sits toward the edge of wonderful salt marshes and is a "must visit" place for anybody holidaying in North Norfolk. The beach is mostly shingle but very popular and there's a beach carpark too.

This is Salthouse Beach, about 30 minutes drive from The Old Post Office in Northrepps. In Summer, the sun sets over the sea in these parts and despite the beach being mostly pebbles, it attracts many people. It helps that the carpark is just 50 yards to the left of this picture. The sea isn't always this bracing, but it's not stopping people.....

This pyramid is the mausoleum within the grounds of Blickling Hall, a vast country park and stately home just outside Aylsham within 30 minutes drive of our cottages. Blickling is a National Trust property with the stunning hall being open to visitors (will you see the ghost of Anne Boleyn?) as well as sculptured gardens, a magnificent lake, bluebell woods and rolling countryside. It's very easy to spend an entire day at Blickling.

No visit to North Norfolk is complete without a trip to Cromer Pier: an ever-popular place for sightseers throughout the decades. This artwork shows a slightly damp evening with people attending the End of the Pier Show.

By chance, as we drove along the coast road Sheringham at the weekend, I spied a steam train cuffing along the tracks. I tried to pull in by the bridge on the main road, but careless positioning of other cars there prevented this. So, we headed to Weybourne Station, hopeful to get there before it arrived. Sadly, it had pulled into the station as we got there, but it stayed at the holt for 10 minutes or so and I was permitted this rather timeless capture.
