We have a very energetic and slightly crazy Dotty who needs a lot of exercise. I thought I’d share this gentle five mile walk which is filled with beautiful scenery and plenty of points of interest.
Starting from Spofforth, you can explore the remains of the medical Manor House, known as Spofforth Castle, The route then takes you underneath a disused railway viaduct and along a beautiful tree-lined path. The rest of the journey to the village of Follifoot is through fields with some amazing views out across the rolling countryside.
Reaching the pretty village of Follifoot, you can stop for a refreshment at the Harewood arms!
Back to the walk you then pass one of the impressive entrances to Rudding Park, before heading out of the village towards the bridge over Crimple Beck.
The return journey back to Spofforth follows the twists and turns of the small river while walking through a series of fields and over a collection of stiles. As you walk along the river edge, look out to the left across the fields and you will notice some impressive gritstone boulders called the Spofforth Pinnicles, part of nearby Plumpton Rocks.
Once you reach Spofforth why not treat yourself to a well earned roast dinner at The Castle Inn 😉 🐾
