The Bosherston Lily Ponds are one of our favourite places to visit when we come to The Bolt Hole and a great place to explore with our dogs.

Bosherston Lily Ponds need no introduction, for they are far-famed among visitors to the county as an unusual beauty spot to be seen and enjoyed.

A group of freshwater lakes, the Lily Ponds are part of a large wildlife reserve in the area and are home to a plethora of wildlife including otters, wildfowl and dragonflies. Of course, the main attraction is the beautiful carpet of lilies that cover the man made ponds that have made them a must visit for those staying in Pembrokeshire.

Located next to the village of Bosherston and at the north end of Broad Haven (South) beach, you can take in the lily ponds on a series of walkways that run alongside them. It’s a gentle and easy stroll that takes you on a magnificent journey through the ponds, where you can admire the peaceful setting from the banks.

If you’re coming from the village there’s a National Trust Carpark with toilets, from where you can access the ponds. There’s a footpath that wind its way along the banks of the ponds and, depending which direction you take, you can cross them on the stone bridge. At the end of your walk you’ll be rewarded with the spectacular beach that stretches out before you, or head in the other direction to join the Pembrokeshire coast path.

We’re always looking for ways to improve The Bolt Hole and have just bought this lovely sofa along with a new, large fridge with a big freezer compartment. Frozen food is now easier to accommodate during stays in the chalet.

We often visit the beautiful lily ponds at Bosherston when we stay at The Bolt Hole and today headed to the nearby St. Goven’s Chapel which was a location featured in the recent ‘His Dark Materials’ TV series. The stunning chapel, built into the rocks is just a 35 minute drive from the chalet.

Y Twll Bollt (The Bolt Hole) is in Nolton Haven, a hidden gem in the St Bride’s Bay area, in the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Located on Folkeston Hill, this charming chalet benefits from privacy, without being overlooked by other chalets, a rarity on this complex. Y Twll Bollt (The Bolt Hole) features an open plan, well-equipped kitchen, living and dining area, two bedrooms, one double, one twin and a shower room. The garden/patio area features outdoor furniture, and there is additional communal lawned areas. There is a children’s play area exclusively for the use of Folkeston Hill residents which includes swings, bars and a slide and there are picnic tables on the hill above the play area to enjoy an alfresco meal with sea views. Folkeston Hill also has its own nature meadow with a pond to stroll around and there are further benches.

This dog-friendly chalet is the perfect base to explore the many fantastic beaches and attractions this wonderful part of Pembrokeshire has to offer. The secluded Folkeston Hill development is a small group of purpose built holiday chalets, all privately owned, surrounded by farmland and gorse and situated in a quiet valley only a few minutes walk from Nolton Haven Beach.
