Strathnairn firewood is another interesting stand to visit at The Moy Game Fair. The planks of elm are beautiful, cut to order and could make an absolutely fantastic worktop/tabletop.

The next stage in the silage making process at Gask House:
The grass has been round baled, then sealed in back plastic to create an anaerobic environment. The bales are then taken off site and stored for use as cattle feed in the winter months.

I love this idea… Connage Highland Dairy have definitely moved with the times to satisfy demand. It is also worth making the time to visit the cheese shop during their opening hours . You will not be disappointed.

At Gask House, mid to late July is the time of year when our fields are cut. The grass crop is used for Ensiling (silage making) which is a vital food source for the local livestock in winter.
I enjoy watching the skill of the tractor drivers who cut our 4 fields with speed and accuracy.
I’ll post again with the next stage in the process of Ensiling.

It certainly has been a dreich day but what better place to be than in the water! The sea is not cold at this time of year (honest!). Findhorn is a lovely spot and we would definitely recommend that our guests add Findhorn or Culbin Forest to their To Do List whilst staying at Gask House Holidays
www.gaskhouse.co.uk

Well another dreich day but fun and frolics are still taking place at Findhorn Watersports with Seals out and playing on the water and an adult Level 2 course taking place.
The water taxi and and paddlesports hire are both still running - it is wet so we feel you may as well jump in with both feet!! We can hire you a wetsuit and help you stay toasty even in the rain 😀

I heard a heatwave is coming our way (the Scottish Highlands)!! What better place for our guests to head for, than Nairn Beach and the fabulous beach cafes, of which James’s At The Putting Green is a great spot.

OPEN 7 DAYS + extended opening times Thursday through to Sunday
Now all we need is the sun ☀️😉

I had to share this great post from Highland Classic Car Hire as we too can confirm that Boath House is amazzzzzzzzzing! The house restaurant is booked well in advance but the garden cafe (which doesn’t take reservations so just turn up and enjoy the al fresco atmosphere) is a stunning place to enjoy their wood-fired pizzas .

Wow what a find…………

I knew Boath House was a lovely place to stay, but who knew it hid such an amazing café in its walled garden. Coleman and I met Ali this afternoon and I believe it will be the first of many visits by HccH.

Coleman and I obviously behave well as we have been invited back for Cars and Coffee on Wednesday 14th August, so save the date.

This delightful café is open to the public on a Friday and Saturday 12-5pm, and can also host events. They offer food and drinks in the most fantastic surroundings, and everyone is so lovely and friendly.

Can’t wait till August!!

We have just had a really enjoyable day out on the Strathspey Railway. We booked lunch (soup & sandwiches) and thoroughly enjoyed the views of the Cairngorms and surrounding countryside as the steam engine pulled us along the line from Aviemore to Broomhill and back again. I'd definitey recommend booking onto this journey. There are many different options, lunch, afternoon tea, or just coffee & cake and the views are stunning too. www.strathspeyrailway.co.uk

Thank you to Findhorn Watersports for providing us with some maps which I am gladly sharing for our guests at Gask House Holidays .

Stretching from Nairn to Findhorn Bay, Culbin is a big forest. It’s a fantastic place to explore, using the extensive network of gravel tracks.

Bluebell out for some sea trials (well - Loch Ruthven Trials!) Both boat 14 and 15 are back to full-health and ready to fish

It’s lovely in Culbin Forest and a wee trip on the water taxi makes this a great walking route from Findhorn.

It’s lovely in Culbin Forest and a wee trip on the water taxi makes this a great walking route from Findhorn.

Findhorn is sunny but pretty windy today. You can hire paddlesports kit from us but not sailing dinghies. And, of course, our water taxi is still running - we can take you over to Culbin Sands and let you pretend to be on a desert island ☠️🗡🏴‍☠️ 😎

More great photos from Birding Ecosse.

There’s a tawny owl (I know…..quite different to a SEO!). that flies around Gask House Farm Cottages in the evenings but I have not yet managed to photograph it. You’ll just have to take my word for it….or see for yourself.

The Connage Highland Dairy is a must-do for our guests. The selection of cheeses is delicious and the knowledge of the ladies serving directs you to exactly what you came in for 😉

I just love the long daylight hours at his time of year. So the Gask House Labradors were woken very early this morning to go for a walk and a swim in the river, in one of our community woodlands which is only 5 minutes from Gask House. The bench was a welcome stop to absorb the early sunshine and dry off.

I spotted a curlew sitting on top of The Gask Ring Cairn, a great lookout post, as I assume its chicks are reared in the long grass nearby.

Despite the unseasonably cool weather here at Gask House - and currently throughout the whole of the country- the land around Gask is looking green and lush. The Gask House Labradors continue to enjoy their breakfast outdoors but the evening snack is served indoors (because I’m a bit of a softie).
