Our Story
Sited on a little hill in two acres of garden and woodland, Greta Hall has amazing views over the top of town to Catbells, Grisdale pike and Walla Crag - with views at the back are to Latrigg and Skiddaw.
Bordered at the back by the River Greta, a bridge a few metres from our back gate takes you into Fitz Park (playground, swimming pool, museum, tennis courts) with the footpath to Latrigg & Skiddaw a little beyond that. Out of the front gate you’re a couple of minutes walk from the centre of town and just ten minutes walk to Derwentwater and the ‘Jaws of Borrowdale’. With hundreds of trails to choose from, beautiful places to explore, wonderful water to ‘wild swim’, sail, fish or canoe, there are thousands of perfect spots to sit and read/draw/contemplate; Keswick truly has something for everyone.
We have plenty of tables & chairs in the garden for al-fresco if the weather is lovely or simply wrapped up with a hot cup of tea. There is also a slate BBQ & fire pit should you fancy a summer BBQ or a Winter bonfire with melting marshmallows. There is plenty in the child-friendly garden to keep youngsters and oldsters happy for hours in all weathers: Climbing fort, ‘princess tower’, swings, rope swings, tree-house, rabbit & guinea-pig rescue centre, chickens to feed, a woodland to make dens and mini bonfires for sausage sizzling. Our own long section of river, with fishing and laundry rights, is safe to paddle in (obviously with parental consent). We also work with a range of experienced activity providers: Gill scrambling, climbing, Fell walking, photography, canoeing, kayaking, paragliding, fresh water swimming, meditation, yoga / Nidra yoga sessions & mindfulness training classes, willow weaving, candle, bread, calligraphy and felt making workshops…. the list actually does go on. If you let me know what you’re interested in, we can help organise a workshop leader for an hour or a few days. If you like, we can organise a totally unflappable private cook to be on hand to prepare a wonderful Brunch, have lunch ready for you after a morning Fell walk or prepare a special dinner where all you need to do is dress-up and come downstairs. We are also able to organise regular Housekeeping throughout your stay; beds made, bathrooms sparkling, floors hoovered and washing up done so the house is lovely when you return from a trip out.
