It's been a busy week at Low Nest with lots happening, some good, some not. But here's a preview clip of a longer video we'll get done of bailing this year.

Surprise arrival at Low Nest!! #farmstays #lifeatLowNest #hensandchicks #lakedistrictholiday
We're so pleased that Henrietta hen has hatched some eggs, however there's a little surprise can you spot it?
*Spoiler*
Henrietta got a bit broody but without a cockrell no chance of hatching chicks, so we put a couple of our fertilised duck eggs under her and she's now hatched ducklings! It's a common trick, one story is of a hen at Low Nest once hatching pheasant chicks!

We headed over to the la'al ratty (Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway) for a trip into this stunning valley with a refreshing pint at the far end followed by an ice cream by the sea at the other.
Have you done the ratty?

We made our annual pilgrimage over to the bluebells at (well can you guess where?). It might have been the wet cold spring, but the bluebells were vibrant and the scent was phenomenal.

Rain!!! Rain the in the Lake District is not normally news worthy. After a very hot dry few weeks, we are glad to see a little of the wet stuff ☔️ Our poor grass will be rejoicing! #holidayrain #farmstays
Make hay while the sunshines!
We’re cutting one of our fields, a little earlier the usual, but we’re guaranteeing some small hay bales.
Heather’s been lambing at a neighbouring farm for the last week and the rest of the month. Today Alasdair joined as her apprentice, here he is lambing the second of a twin.
These lambs are Texels. Unlike our local swaledales and Herdwicks they need a little more help at lambing.

Okay so we forgot to do a video of the new referb at todays change over. So here’s a 30 second clip of the goats. The one playing for the camera is Comet.
Have a great weekend and we’ll try and get a video next week!

We have some new residents! Welcome the Pygmy Goat clan. They are all adopted from a friends farm and all have names, so we’ll introduce them over the coming weeks. But for now welcome the mob.
Freya made it to the top of her new favourite mountain. Can anybody recognise it?
The answer will be revealed in the next day or two.
We’re going to need a bigger pond! The ducklings are certainly out growing their tub.

The ducklings are hatching!
We had a wonderful surprise this morning to wake up to 5 ducklings followed shortly by the birth of this sixth. A couple more to go.
We’ll keep them in the incubator a little bit longer then more then over to the brooder. We’ll keep you posted with how they get on.

Where are we?
Bluebells are truly beautiful flowers and this little spot over the valley from us is surely the most beautiful place in the lakes at this time of year. The camera really doesn’t do it justice.

Good morning from Low Nest.
What a difference a couple of days makes. From shorts and T-shirts to primalofts and thermals. But always worth it for a bit of snow on the fells.
Wow, we’ll you don’t see this often!
Guy Martin has been in the lakes. He’s stealing the old tank engine at Threlkeld Quarry. They could have just got a standard lorry, but no. Instead Guy and team got a double header steam traction engine with a third pushing for good measure and decided to go up Dunmail Raise!
A stunning sight!
The weathers been incredible here for the last couple of weeks and even months. Here’s a shaky video of the sun going down behind Nest Brow.
Run mountain rescue run!
Alasdair had just made it up to Sty Head Tarn when he saw some fell runners fast approaching. Except they weren’t fell runners but Keswick Mountain Rescue Team. It was an incredibly hot day and anybody who’s done the route will know how steep and tough it is. Then add on top the fact they were carrying massive bags of kit, a serious effort!
As many know; Alasdair and Heather were lifeboat crew for 8 years. The futhest we ever ran was 500m down the flat high street to the station.
The helicopter only beat them to the scene by 1 or 2 minutes!
If you watch the video and enjoyed it, or just have full respect for the guys then please donate: https://keswickmrt.org.uk/donate/
Just again, they were fell running in 20+ degrees with hefty bags on their backs. 👏
