A few more photos from this beautiful part of Scotland. The weather has been so kind. Up until yesterday the sun was shining and the sky was blue. Now it’s just a little grey but not cold. Claddie: isolated holiday cottage by the sea is a place to ‘get away from it all’ in the truest sense. Thursday we leave to go to Liverpool for a couple of days as I’ve wanted to visit Another Place, the beach sculptures by Antony Gormley for years. We’re staying in a lovely hotel in the city centre; so a bit different from here.
Elise the owner of Claddie opens her bookings for 2025 in November; we hope some of you might come and stay. Keep an eye on their page.

I promised I’d share some photos from our Scottish adventure atCladdie: isolated holiday cottage by the sea. We arrived yesterday afternoon and I don’t think we realised just how isolated Claddie is. What a spot! My ears used to ring at Tanpits due to the quiet; here I swear they’ve almost dropped off. 😜
I can see why people love it here and return over and over again. The location really is quite extraordinary, I know I’ve certainly never been anywhere so utterly quiet and raw. The closest we’ve experienced in terms of scenery and vastness is probably New Zealand. The last photo is this morning at about 6.30 a.m.

Yesterday we started our Scottish road trip adventure. First stop Another Place hotels Beautiful, Friendly, Chilled and Dog Friendly we can’t recommend it enough. It’s truly perfect
I cried before we arrived and then I cried at this view from our stunning bedroom. One night here isn’t enough so we’ll definitely come back. But today our onward journey will take us to Claddie: isolated holiday cottage by the sea and we just can’t wait.
We’ve loved all our years in South Devon but now’s our time to explore parts of the UK we’ve just dreamt about. And we’ll happily share.💚

Yesterday we said a final farewell to the old pink place with our nearest and dearest. Suffice to say there was lots of Pimms, a delicious Devon cream tea and this magnificent cake. Good enough to eat - and we did. 💚

Thursday lunchtime we left Tanpits Cottage for the very last time.
Lots of sorting, three tip runs, our cars loaded to within an inch of their lives, garden flowers picked for the new owner and Luna supervising it all whilst looking like a Krispy Kreme donut.
We didn’t even see the sea or eat out; this visit was all about turning the very last page of this magnificent chapter with ninja like precision and focus. ( Tho’ we did visit Aune Valley View Cafe on our way home and the food was beyond incredible).
Monday we complete on the sale and a whole new wonderful story will begin for this beautiful old place under a new owner who fell in love whilst on holiday.
I’d also just like to give a special shout-out to Pete. I know I’m the gobby one who does the ads and social media and enters into all the lovely chatty emails so many of you exchange with us but without him none of this would have hung together. Pete bought Tanpits in a previous life over 35 years ago when it was run down and unloved and it’s been a massive part of his world. He’s been Mr Maintenance and has truly slogged over the years. And in the past nine years since going independent without an Agent he’s been the calm, collected, systematic ‘back end’ of the business whilst I worked full time in Social Care, making sure the booking administration was completed, paying all the people who service and help with Tanpits, managing our website and booking software; ha - looking after me ( which is quite the job on its own).
So this huge almighty step is even huge-er for him than it is for me and fortuitously he’s as ready to close this chapter as I am. Timing and synchronicity is always key in life; and we’re both very ready for this to be a time of less responsibility.
I’m not sure what we’ll do with this page. I may have removed 2000 photos of your beautiful dogs from my phone but I’m not sure I can bring myself to close this page completely. I’ll see. All will become apparent I’m sure.
So ‘job-done’ as they say. I know ( and hope) many of you will keep holidaying in South Devon. I have a list of recommendations which I’ve sent to lots of people; just say if you’d like it.
Thank you for the memories everyone; all your holidays, all your dogs, all your friendship, all your love. It’s been an honour and a privilege to be a part of Tanpits chapter and to get to know so many of you and to have helped you enjoy the best holidays.

How did you spend your Bank Holiday Monday?
Ours has seen the first of many dump-runs (not quick in the country lanes), lots of bubble wrapping, sorting, chaos, and sweat finishing up with a cheap gin can in the field because we’re too exhausted and dirty to go out and I forgot to bring our bottle of Salcombe gin with.
The only thing I was determined to keep was our Tanpits Cottage sign. Pete and I had it commissioned at a lovely little pottery in Torcross called Fuscia Ceramics. Does anyone remember it? Taking down the sign was momentarily poignant. But we intend to put it up somewhere in our lovely Bedfordshire Garden.
Luna continues to look like a Krispy Kreme and is helping by making sure she is laying wherever we need to be. 💚

It seems really fitting that Luna is here with us at Tanpits this very last week. As it was in 2015 on her first ever holiday when we decided to leave our Agent and bite the bullet and embrace the dog friendly market with open arms. And of course being the doggy-diva she is only a pink collar-cone will do. Luna has very graciously shared HER wall with hundreds and hundreds of dogs over the years and of course being a Beagle she is now sniffing the scent of every one of them. Luna-barn will hopefully stand for hundreds more years as thanks to the pup who helped make Tanpits the holiday-love of so many hearts. 🩷

Today our last ever holidaymakers leave Tanpits Cottage and thirty years of holiday letting is complete. The most incredible, fun, hard, privileged chapter of our lives ( and our loyal, ever repeating holidaymakers lives) are over.
And we have to admit we’re very ready for it. 😴
This evening we’ll be travelling the five hours to Tanpits in two cars with Luna-Beagle (who is sadly in a cone with a poorly foot after unexpectedly having to have an operation yesterday afternoon - just the thing when you’re dog sitting right?) And we’ll be spending the week doing a bit of sorting and saying goodbye to a few people. 🩷
Next weekend we’ll be handing over the keys to Tanpits new owner and we couldn’t be happier. Shes had many stays at the old pink place and loves it with all her heart. She’ll be turning it into her forever home which we know she’ll do beautifully. 🏡
When we took over the running of Tanpits ourselves 8 years ago from
our Agent we were blown away by its popularity. Since that day the cottage has been booked out every single week of every year, apart from our maintenance weeks, and for that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
And of course we couldn’t have run this amazing business without some pretty loyal and wonderful people around us. We will be forever grateful to everyone. 💚

Sunny Salcombe.
Usually when we’re staying at Tanpits it’s all about upkeep and maintenance; not this time. Although there’s a few things to do until Tanpits lovely new owner moves in we’re grabbing our last remaining weeks in the South Hams to revisit favourite places, visit places we’ve not got to in 30 years and to walk some of the incredible coastal walks right on our doorstep.
Today was Mill Bay to Gara Rock. Totally exquisite. Just under four miles it takes in coastal paths and rural bridle ways. The refurbishment of the Gara Rock hotel is stunning and the Gin & Tonic perfect. 💙
May Sunshine
The weather at Tanpits has been mainly wonderful this week which with the number of tip runs we’ve needed to do we’re very grateful for.
Hoping that this glorious sunshine stays for half term next week. 💚
Vitamin Sea
This probably sums up a glorious May day in the South Hams. The sound of children playing in the sea, cider, fish and chips and ice cream. 💚

Tanpits is in Chillington, South Devon - a stunning cottage in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Tanpits is a wonderfully detached cottage sitting in a quiet country lane with a south-facing veranda which catches the sun by day and the sunsets in the evening.
Lots of space, four poster beds, woodburners, squidgy sofas and unlimited whizzy fibre broadband; the cottage is fully equipped and beautifully comfortable.
It has a delightful good-sized enclosed garden with fenced stream, waterfall and woodland area and overlooks its own two acre field which is perfect to let dogs run in, or for children to cavort or even camp in. It even has a warm outside dog-shower. No goosebumps here!
Luna-Barn nestles in the corner of the grounds and is an 18th century barnlet which is a games/play room with table football.
Tanpits has no neighbours. That’s right. Not one. Because the cottage is located in a quiet lane in large grounds with its own field Tanpits is an ideal place to sing, dance, laugh and play lots of loud music on the incredible Sonos sound system.
Just completely chill out in the gorgeous green with friends, family, a loved one and your dogs.
At Tanpits you can be completely unsociable, and choose not to see anyone, or you can wander 500 yards up the lane and enjoy our Award Winning dog friendly pub and village shop.
Sleeps up to 8 people and warmly welcomes 5 dogs.
