The air today is full of the gentle aroma of the flowers, the sounds of bees buzzing and birds singing their little hearts out.

We're thrilled to share that Historic England has recognised our restoration work for Cornwall's only medieval packhorse bridge as part of their Heritage at Risk programme.

This historic landmark is believed to have been constructed in the 15th century to serve Launceston, and over time, the bridge has worn and required structural improvements and maintenance.

Last year, in partnership with Cornwall Council, we completed the restoration work, replacing damaged slate and cobbles and maintaining the surrounding vegetation. So we are very proud that Historic England has recognised this historic landmark and our efforts to preserve it!

Andrew Smith, Project Manager at Cormac, expressed pride in restoring this integral piece of Cornwall's history, stating, “Cormac are really proud to have restored one of Cornwall’s historic structures. The Packhorse Bridge plays a really important part of the community here in Launceston. It’s a lovely example of a bridge of its kind, and great sensitivity and expertise has been taken in safeguarding it for the future”.

With the weather showing little let-up in the rain (at time of writing, the sun has peeked from behind thick cloud for a, no doubt, brief interlude!), it’s difficult to find things to do in the summer holidays that keep everyone dry!

Therefore, if you can’t beat it, embrace it! There are lots of fun things to do in the rain no matter how wet it is outside - don’t let the rain keep you inside! Some good waterproofs, wellies and warm towels and a hot chocolate for afterwards are all you need for some really good rain fun!

From welly wandering, paddling, and mud creating, to swimming in the sea, rock-pooling and dam building, Cornwall is the perfect environment to get involved in some fantastic wet day fun!

If you’re looking for some ideas, The National Trust's “50 things to do before you’re 11¾” list includes numerous activities for rainy day fun, so why not take a look, get those waterproofs on and get out there! It’s only water!
