The first of a series of posts about the musicians who will be at the Lostwithiel Gin Festival on Saturday 25th June. Entry is free, no tickets needed! Just turn up and be prepared to buy some gin. The event starts at 11am and finishes at 9pm, we recommend you come by train if you aren’t local.
Performing twice during the afternoon (3pm - 3.30pm and 3.45pm - 4.15pm) are HORSE AND HEDGES.
New to the Lostwithiel Gin Festival scene sees this renowned Blues Duo of Jeff Horsey and Gareth Hedges having been mentioned and played on BBC Radio 2 by none other than Paul Jones. They play authentic Blues and some Rock standards and not without a little well-chosen and knowledgeable banter.
Jeff has played the blues for forty years, taking time out to tour and play festivals and gigs all over Europe and the USA. He busked on Beale Street in Memphis, played dates in Europe, Louisiana, Australia and has supported and played with, artists as diverse as Robert Plant, Peter Green, Geno Washington and Screaming Lord Sutch! Now he's back with old friend Gareth Hedges resuming a partnership they started over 25 years ago.
Gareth plays a Martin acoustic guitar and sings in an authentic lived-in voice, equally at home with Blues, Jazz or Bluegrass. In the 1970's he travelled the southern states of the USA , from the Mississippi Delta to the Tennessee Hills, absorbing the music of numerous folk and blues musicians. He has spent time with Gary Davis, Son House, Doc Watson and Bill Munroe and still meets up with bluegrass ace Peter Rowan in the States.
"We both enjoy playing solo, but together have a lot more fun, reeling off our big repertoire of songs, on guitars and harmonica with plenty of our trademark harmony vocals and a lot of good humoured banter."
