The Original Nottingham Ghost Walk is Nottingham’s longest running and most successful walking tour of the city - join us every Saturday come rain or shine, Hell or highwater!
The Original Nottingham Ghost Walk started back in 1993 as the first - and still the only - ghost tour of Nottingham. Realising the potential for a ghost tour around the historic city of Nottingham, the ghost walk was conceived and created by local psychic medium, Jenny Bright and her husband Dr David Cross. Right from the outset, Jenny and David took on the services of local storyteller and folklorist, Simon Unsworth to be the walk's main guide. Simon was later joined by fellow storyteller and raconteur, Gary Breinholt. The Original Nottingham Ghost Walk kicked off on Easter Bank Holiday 1993, with a crowd of nearly 300 turning up for the inaugural event! Originally starting at the Castle Gatehouse, the walk soon moved to Ye Olde Salutation Inn, which became its home for the next 20 years. During that time the ghost walk grew in popularity, becoming a mainstay of the tourism scene in the city. Leading people around the city's Castle Quarter and into the caves below Ye Olde Salutation, the walk has entertained thousands of visitors and locals, as well as providing private group tours for all kinds of people. 2015 saw Jenny and David retire and the walk was taken over by Simon and Gary, who added Tony Maul and Bryan Hall - both local lads - as guides on the walk. With Simon and Gary in charge, the walk went through some changes, with new material being added to the original stories that were first researched over 20 years before. In 2017, the walk 'moved home' to the iconic Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem for its starting point, whilst still returning for its finale in the ancient caves below Ye Olde Salutation Inn.
2019 also saw some big changes, with Gary - sadly - retiring from the walk, but Bryan took up the reins to become a new partner in the business. The walk has now been joined by our first female guide and the youngest ghost walker in the country, at 19 years old, Rowan, Simon’s daughter. So after 26 years, the ghost walk is now a family business!
