The Now Then! project has been launched! A cultural development programme for Selby, Sherburn and Tadcaster, with We Are Here, a new community-led, interactive video art installation. Award winning artists have engaged with local residents in a series of workshops to collect and curate their imagined versions of a future Selby Abbey. Now Then! will create joyful, memorable and authentic experiences, which speak directly to communities’ needs and aspirations. We Are Here is open at Selby Abbey daily until Sunday 7th July. πŸŒžπŸŽ‰This Sunday (23rd) is Selby Family Fun Day πŸŒžπŸŽ‰
This year Selby Town Council are celebrating 50 years! So, why not come along dressed up in the fashion from 1974 – think flares, ponchos and platform shoes!! There are sponsored fancy dress competitions with some fabulous prizes.
The event is to be held over 3 venues – all starting from 12 noon. The Scott Road Community Land features FREE fairground rides with lots of charity stalls offering a variety of tombola's and games with lots of prizes to be won. An array of vendors providing refreshments and cakes will be available in the Community Centre where you can dance along to hits of the 70’s played by a local DJ. There is also a fun Dog Show organised by Woodhaven Second Chance Rescue, donkey rides, climbing wall, bouncy castles, circus skills and much more. The Recreation Field on Portholme Road (Adjacent to Morrisons) will feature our live stage with acts performing from 12 noon until 7.30pm. Vale of York Athletic Community will be hosting an exciting afternoon of athletics from 12 noon to 3pm on the AstroTurf at Selby Leisure Centre. Every child who competes all five events gets a free goodie bag and a medal. Plus, there are top prizes for the fastest, furthest, and most fun participants!

So, get yourself along to Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens this afternoon as Vanessa will be leading her monthly garden walk from 2pm until 3pm - it's really well worth joining as the garden is loving this weather! πŸŽ‹πŸŒ΄
Included in the cost of admission to the gardens (Β£7.50 per adult and Β£2.50 per child), Vanessa will show you the highlights of the garden in June. You will also learn how the garden is managed for wildlife and Vanessa will highlight some of the many ways she has blended stunning planting with being wildlife-friendly. As it's National Walking Month and we celebrate the great outdoors, why not visit Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens this weekend. They are supporting the National Garden Scheme (NGS); a registered charity which has been opening gardens of quality, character and interest to the public since 1927. All entry fees and 10% of plant sales will be donated to the NGS 🌷🌿 who have raised over £25 million in the last 10 years.
In May the garden is full of colour and wildlife. You will be able to wander through all the different parts of the garden and gain inspiration for your own garden. Many of the plants you will see are available to buy in the plant nursery. Their tea room will be open for drinks and cake, where you cam also view the May Art exhibition.

May is National Walking Month πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸ₯Ύ So, why not walk to school or work?
National Walking Month is a great way to leave your car at home, get outside and get fit by walking to and from work or school. Take the stairs instead of the lift and generally get moving this May. It's one of the best ways to improve our health and stay connected to our community, helping us feel less lonely and isolated. If you have a dog(s) it's also a great way to keep you both active.
There are some fantastic outdoor spaces in the Heart of Yorkshire; from wonderful nature reserves through to parks and canal or woodland walks.
