Old School!
No two days are the same at Cuplahills. Today? School work!
We use an old set of metal harrows that used to be pulled behind the seeder to cover seeds in the fields at sowing time.
The worn down teeth on the harrows and their weight makes them perfect for pulling with the quad bike.
Hopefully the horses will be happy with level surface for schooling work.

Recent work on the farm - installing owl boxes that were donated to us. We have fixed two large boxes in the open hay sheds that we hope will provide safe breeding spaces for Barn Owls. We have a residential population of Barn Owls that are often seen through the night around the barns, tracks and hunting the grass margins and wild bird seed that have been put in place as part of our ongoing commitment to environmental schemes. Essential works to secure some of our old farm buildings before Babet arrived. Many further north suffered far worse damage from the rain and winds.
We were then rewarded with the calm after the storm … golden hour sunsets flooding light into our lodges with breathtaking views across the Eden valley to St Andrews. And our ponds just off the quarry road doing the job for which they were designed.

It’s that time of year when we start to see all manner of woodland fruits start to ripen. Hazel nuts, sweet cherries, damsons, rowan berries and apples. And our first winter broad beans are looking like a really good crop! The wheat is starting to turn in front of Cuplahills. Grass margins are full of colour. The deep blue chicory is amazing.
