Two days of drumming and gumboot dancing for three year 1/2 classes of St. Mary’s CE Primary School in Yate. Culminating in a performance to parents. The children received a standing ovation! At the end of the day one little girl, Ayla, showed me the drawing she made. She loved the drumming sessions.

The Hollow Lane Club supports children and young people with complex disabilities through a year round programme of clubs and activities that provide them with opportunities to socialise and engage in fun and recreational activities with support and guidance from their playworkers. Today they had a chance to try out their drumming skills and there were some real musical talents among the children, some also had great leadership and teamwork skills. What a great day it was!

On this very wet day, we all enjoyed a Drumming Workshop today with Marion at FabDrumming. For some of the young people, working in a big group was too much, so they were able to enjoy 1:1 sessions 🪘🪘

I combined a workshop for Reception and Year 1 classes at Bruton Primary School with a visit to the Piet Oudolf garden at the Hauser & Wirth gallery. The children were outstanding drummers, considering they were so young, they were able to keep a steady beat and play rhythms instead of doing musical games I usually do with this age group. The garden was beautiful too :)

Great workshops for Broughton Junior School. Not African drumming this time, but Music of the Mayas. The curriculum topic is:
Describe how music can be used to create expressive effects and convey emotion. Listen to different examples of Maya music. Compare the different pieces and describe the sounds they hear. Choose a favourite piece and describe the emotions it provokes.
Create ‘glyphs’ to symbolise its instruments and sounds. Use their glyphs to map the piece of music and try to recreate it with instruments and their voice.
And that's exactly what we did and it sounded marvelous!

Drum Circle at The Sangha House, Sunday 6th November at 4pm.
This is more a party than a workshop. Marion's incredibly passion for drumming and her vibrant approaches soon discovers the rhythm in all of us. The Djembe is often incorrectly called a bongo. It is a traditional African drum and when played correctly, many different types of sound can be found. Marion artfully brings in multiple rhythms within the group all beating together. There is something magical about the drum and its wonderful synchronicity with the heart.
£13.50 per person

FabDrumming has developed a new workshop: Music of the Mayans. The children learn about Mayan civilization and recreate the sounds and rhythms of Ancient Mayan music, using drums, slitdrums, shakers and whistles. As you can see, the children of Bishops Road Primary School loved it :)

FabDrumming facilitated a drumming workshop for Bouygues Energies & Services in Fanhams Hall. The delegates had a great time. After a full day of training, they enjoyed getting into the groove, creating new rhythms and connecting with each other.

The power of (Team) Drumming explained in this article:

Music is more than just something we listen to. It has the ability to affect us emotionally and physically.
Studies show that there is a connection between the brain, music and movement. You don't need an instrument to make music, by using our bodies and movement, we can make music whilst also improving our brain function.
Body Percussion is a fun and light exercise that creates energy, and provides cognitive stimulation for the development of attention, memory, movement, coordination and speech.
It enhances body and brain physical balance.
Reduces stress, boosts the immune system and increases playfulness and creativity. And last but not least, it is fun and increases the sense of joy by making music within a group.
FabDrumming facilitates African Drumming, Junk Percussion, African Dancing, South African Gumboot Dancing and Body Percussion Workshops for schools, INSET days, Teambuilding and Away Days.

Day 2 of FabDrumming's three days in Devon. The children of Clawton Primary School are very lucky with all the outdoor space they have to run around in. There is a nice big hall too where they tried getting as many different sounds out of the junk drumming instruments and played some groovy rhythms too.

Schools are open again. Apart from catching up on their learning, pupils also need to catch up on making memories, play and social interaction. Children love banging on drums and playing rhythm. It is a great way to blow off steam and is a great team building exercise.
Another way to create joyful memories is an African dancing or South African gumboot dancing session. We work with children of different ages and abilities: nursery-, primary- and secondary school children and children with special needs.
Our educational drum workshops are about percussion and rhythm, teamwork, discipline, listening skills, building self-confidence and having fun!

My first drumming workshops after everything stopped because of the lockdown. I used PPE, observed social distancing rules, the pupils washed their hands before and after the session, the drums were wiped before each session and windows were open for ventilation. It felt safe and it felt good. I've missed giving my workshops! It was wonderful to see the happy faces of the children of Countess Gytha Primary School and North Cadbury Primary School. They were very musical too!

The health and safety of all the participants of my drumming workshops is my absolute priority and I will be following guidelines from the UK Government. I'm take the following measures to keep everyone safe:
- Providing anti bacterial gel for the participants to clean their hands before and after the session.
- Cleaning all the drums and instruments, before and after a drumming session with a bleach based sanitizer spray.
- If there are sessions for different groups, I will clean all the drums and instruments before the next session starts.
- All the participants need to sit at a safe distance from each other.
- I will follow the advice of the school or organisation in the use of PPE and other safety measures.

Drumming has health benefits. Studies show that drumming boost the immune system. Group drumming increases natural T-cells, which help the body combat virusses. It also makes you happy. Drumming releases endorphins, enkephalins and Alpha waves in the brain, which are associated with general feelings of well-being and euphoria.
