I love my home, but sometimes working from home drives me nuts and I just need to get out. I tend to need more holidays than the rest of the family to counter act spending so much time looking at the same four walls. with friends walking and cycling holidays help me to re-charge and keep my firmly on track.

is perfect for getting away with friends. The beds can be set up to sleep 6 single people and the spacious living and dining rooms are so comfortable you might find it hard to drag yourself away. It really doesn't matter if you choose to just chill out in our gorgeous holiday home and see very little of the surrounding area, because there's always next year.😉

FEEL LIKE A KID AGAIN...

It's bike week, so why not harness your inner child and give it a go this weekend.

I fell back in love with cycling as an adult, when I was 19, during a visit to Whitby with my then boyfriend (now Husband). We hired bikes and travelled from Hawsker to Ravenscar via Robin Hood's Bay on the Cinder Track. My Husband and I soon started racing at the pure joy of rediscovering our childhood hobby. Despite, falling off in style (over the handlebars and into some brambles) I was hooked and when we had children we brought them to Robin Hood’s Bay to cycle sections of the Cinder Track with us.

These days you can hire ebikes, which makes riding a bike as easy as going for a walk.

is a cycle friendly holiday cottage near Robin Hood's Bay and it's 300m from a 21 mile re-purposed railway line called The Cinder Track. This traffic free route runs from Scarborough to Whitby, through the and there are delightful sections where you will get uninterrupted view of the stunning Yorkshire coast.

Beautiful Weekend Walk ❤️

The forecast was indicating a high chance of rain, so we planned a shorter route up Simon’s Seat. We had a fabulous walk and got to enjoy and swooping right in front of us to catch the mayflies. We chatted to a lovely couple who helped us to identify the birds and ate lunch on the rocky bank with this stunning view and guess what…

NO RAIN ☔️

ARE YOU HAVING A NEED MORE SLEEP WEEK?

I am and I the irony is, I just need a holiday! We've got a relaxing week booked in summer and a few days at the end of June for a walking weekend. Aside from this, we haven't been away this year because the youngest Seafern Cottage family member is studying for GCSEs and it's all work, work, work. Phew we're nearly there and those beds are calling me. 🛏

For any with children currently studying for exams - I feel your pain 😟

OPEN STUDIOS EVENTS 1ST & 2ND JUNE and 8th & 9th JUNE

North Yorkshire Open Studios is an annual event enabling artists and makers to open their studios, meet, promote, and sell their work direct to the public over the first two weekends in June. There are a few artists in Sleights & Aislaby, that we recommend you might want to visit as it's a short drive from

I just found this fab supper club who come up with a different theme each Friday and deliver home cooked meals to your holiday cottage. This week is all Italian. Previous weeks have included Indian, French and Spanish. What's your favourite Friday Food?

HOW TO STAY SAFE WILD SWIMMING…

Last June it was so hot that we decided to cut our planned bike ride short and go for a swim in the sea instead.

Wild swimming, as it is now called has enjoyed increased popularity in recent years, with more and more people braving the elements in the hope of accessing some of the desirable health benefits. Cold water therapy is not just considered great for sports recovery, some gurus like The Iceman (Wim Hof) claim it is also linked to improved quality of sleep, focus, and immune response.

The ‘safer season’ for dipping is generally considered to be between 15 May and 30 September when water temperatures are a little warmer.

Wild swimming and cold water therapy is all the rage in the UK, but how do you get started? Before heading for a wild swim it is important to do some research into water safety.

HAVE YOU TRIED WILD SWIMMING?

Now that the weather is warming up it’s a good time to try some . It’s an activity that is increasing in popularity in the UK, as many of us are adopting mindfulness to combat stress. And the good news is there are now more places around England where we can safely take a dip.

The government has just announced 27 locations for new official swimming spots around the country, including a number of beautiful rivers and lakes in some of the most scenic locations.

I can't wait to try the new locations in Yorkshire out!

This is a must watch for anyone wondering what all the fuss is about 'walking challenges'.

The BBC claim: “Pilgrimage is a series like no other; getting into the heart and soul of who we are and what makes life meaningful.”

Spending time walking certainly seems to allow our minds to do a lot of thinking and processing and it can often be a cathartic experience. Actor Tom Rosenthal, said of the experience ''I’ve always been interested by anybody with any thoughts as to what it is we are all doing here. It’s fairly confusing and if I spend all my time watching Arsenal and the’ The Traitors’ I’m never going to find out. Dedicating myself to a pilgrimage for two weeks is a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon my spirituality and to make a TV show my grandmother will actually enjoy watching.”

WE HAVE SOME REASONS TO CELEBRATE IN 2024...

In the form of 2 big birthdays! The seafern cottage Nana will be 90 this weekend and I myself will be hitting the big 50 in August. With this in mind we spent a little time 'zhuzhing up' the dining room at to make it . We've made chiffon blown up a and some . Tumblers and pretty napkins decorated with a touch of gypsophila finishes our look. What do you think?

ONE OF OUR FAVOURITE WALKS FROM SEAFERN COTTAGE...

Involves taking the bus to whitby and walking along the cleveland way back to Robin Hoods Bay. It's advisable to take a picnic for this walk, because there are no cafe's along the route, but plenty of nice places to stop enjoy the views and refuel.

For food that's easy to pop in your rucksack how about popping into Java Cafe Whitby for a deli roll and a nutritious salad box. I've heard their fresh coffee it pretty good too.
