People always ask us all the time about the history of our Family cottage in Hesket Newmarket. So here is a short history ……

Formally a Quaker meeting House, (known as the Gillfoot Meeting house) built in circa 1729, the cottage is a grade II listed building and was converted to a cottage in 1934. Our beautiful cottage has been in our family for over 50 years, and has been a favourite holiday destination for us as a family and friends for years.

Our delicate refurbishment of our much loved cottage means that all now can enjoy our special place for years to come with all you need for the perfect staycation.

The cottage sits within the UNESCO world heritage site Lake District National Park and the conservation zone of Cumbrian village Hesket Newmarket which is within sight of the Caldbeck / Northern Lakeland fells.
Hesket Newmarket also has (in our opinion) the best pub in the World !

No more than 30 mins from the towns Keswick, Penrith and Carlisle 3 Howbeck cottage is the ideal place to explore not just the Northern Lake District, but the whole of the National Park and beyond.
