Oh sunshine how we have missed you ☀️
It has been a long old winter, not just for horse owners but for for us in the equine laundry industry! With everything in our care being air dried, we have exhausted our heaters and dehumidifiers trying to keep your horses rugs clean and fresh and get them back to you in good time - so the sunshine is a HUGE relief!

Although, according to Shires, this style rug is no longer made, (turnouts with mesh lining) we still see a few through for their cleaning/repairs here at Merlin Equestrian. Unfortunately they are hard to keep to our standards of de-hairing as the hair gathers underneath the mesh and builds. This means that during the cleaning process we are unable to get underneath the mesh. We thought we would show you an example of this incase you might have a similar rug!

Let’s talk CLIPS!
You’ve just clipped your horse. It’s snowing outside. You go to pull out your heavyweight rug and you can’t do up the final strap - the leg strap.
Clips easily get siezed over time particularly on rugs which may have been stored slightly damp. Here is an example of a siezed clip which we will replace for the customer - this ensures the rug is in complete working order come winter time! ❄️❄️❄️

Rest assured - if your rugs are with us at the minute, we are working on them! Drying takes soooo long in this damp weather, especially as we air dry not tumble!

As we head into winter, I’m going to be holding some more polework/flatwork sessions from my base at Huggate YO42, and some local indoor arenas too (perfect for the ever changing weather!)
Fun, friendly and educational sessions either on the flat or over poles with former international rider Laura Milner.

A trip to Merlin Equestrian! The journey your horses rugs take - from collection to delivery!
1. Rugs collected on the van, bagged and labelled with customer name and what is required
2. Rugs are labelled individually and recorded into our system.
3. Rugs are washed/reproofed in our specialist Electrolux washing machines, using the amazing RugSafe UK products to protect them.
4. Rugs are hung out in our specialist drying room to dry - they are all air dried to prevent any shrinkage!
5. Once dry, rugs are loaded onto the table, with their velcros cleaned, straps and fabric checked over and folded.
6. At this point, should they require repair, they are taken up to our sewing room.
7. Once repairs are complete (or in most cases when not required) rugs are bagged individually and labelled once again with customer name, what work was carried out and that rugs unique number.
8. They are then loaded on the van and delivered back to your door!
