In 2013 Nazy’s Guest House established Pankisi Adventure Treks for tourists to experience Pankisi Valley on horseback at affordable prices. Our horse trekking services quickly became very popular so we developed package tours and treks for groups to experience Pankisi, Tusheti and Khevsureti High Caucasus mountains.
Today, Pankisi Adventure Treks is recognised as a leader specialising in horse trekking. Our trademark Discovery, Explorer and Pioneer tours and treks can be tailored to suit different abilities, interests and group sizes. These are suitable for novice and proficient riders. We also offer horse riding courses and photography expeditions.
Our horse guides (Avto, Arbi and Mukhmad) are qualified in Equine Care and Tour Management through the Federation Internationale du Tourism Equestre organisation and certified in First Aid through the Georgia Red Cross Society. They have many years of experience working with Nazy’s Guest House guests and are very caring. Their intimate knowledge of the routes into the remote mountainous regions of Pankisi, Tusheti and Khevsureti, and their love of horses and the outdoors, create unforgettable adventures.
All our horse treks and tours start from Nazy’s Guest House in the heart of Pankisi Valley.
In the morning a hearty breakfast is prepared and served to get you ready for your journey.
Our horse guides (Avto, Arbi and Mukhmad) bring the horses and saddles to the guest house while riders prepare their provisions for the journey.
Avto, Arbi and Mukhmad prepare the horses, adjust and secure the saddle for your comfort and safety, arrange your provisions on your horse, and prepare the pack horse(s) to carry food and camping equipment for your trek into the high mountains.
After preparations you will get to know your horse who will be your trusted companion for the journey. Please follow the advice and instructions given by the guides at all times, it is for your health and safety as well the horse. We strongly advise riders (novice and experienced) to wear safety helmet at all times when riding.
Once all preparations are complete it is time to head off for the beauty and tranquillity of the Caucasus mountains and enjoy your horse riding adventure.
From Jokolo the route follows a dirt track along the Alazani River heading northwards towards the Batsara Ravine. You will notice the rural landscape of Pankisi Valley change into dense vegetation as the valley narrows into a gorge.
The route follows a track which climbs up the Batsara Ravine winding through the forest crossing streams until you emerge onto meadows and eventually arrive at the Tbatana alpine pastures (1900 metres) where spectacular views of Pankisi Valley below and Tusheti mountains to the east open up.
From here on the adventure into the remote reaches of the High Caucasus continues as you climb to elevations of 3000 metres and higher, crossing craggy passes and mountain summits. Dismounting your horse is necessary in certain sections of the routes for rider and horse safety.
We will not spoil your expectations so here is a brief glimpse of the heavenly mountains that await you. Enjoy!
