Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park 🌲
In the center of Georgia, near the city of Borjomi, there are protected areas of the reserve and the national park Borjomi-Kharagauli. It is considered one of the largest nature conservation parks in Europe.
Peculiarities of the National Park The Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is located in the central part of Georgia on the territory of 3 regions - Imereti, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Shida Kartli. The park area is 85,083 hectares (more than 1% of the territory of the Georgian state). Borzhomsky Reserve occupies 18,048 hectares, of which 15,863 hectares are covered with forests. The terrain is mountainous - from 800 to 2,200 meters above sea level. The climate of the reserve is temperate. If we talk about the park as a whole, then the moderate and humid subtropical zones are in close contact. On the territory in addition to forests there are small ponds, streams and waterfalls, which appeared thanks to the main river of the Kura (Mtkvari) reserve.
Flora and fauna In the natural zones of the park there are more than 1,200 plant species. Mountain forests consist of Imeretian oaks, chestnuts, hornbeams and beeches. On the lower slopes of the mountains grow birch, spruce, pine and fir. There are also elms, ash trees, yews, maples, wild pears and apple trees. In addition, the forest edges can be seen thickets of blackberry, grapes, hops, ivy and clematis. Approximately one-fourth of the territory of the national park is covered with alpine and subalpine meadows, most of which are occupied by the Pontian and Kolkhi rhododendron. As for the richness and diversity of the animal world of the park and protected areas, according to the latest research data, there are constantly over 60 species of animals, of which 8 are listed in the Red Book of the country. Here you can meet the original for these places Caucasian deer, chamois and roe deer, large and small menacing predators - bears, lynxes and wild cats. In addition to them in the reserve you can see the European wide-shoulders and large evening girls, Persian squirrels, pine martens and badgers. About 30 species of amphibians and reptiles are registered in the park: Caucasian salamanders and mule toads, Adzharian lizards, Caucasian vipers and others. The park is famous for its large number of birds. More than 215 species of local and migratory birds inhabit here, of which 13 are close to total extinction and are protected by the state. Brown vultures, Caspian snowcocks, eagles, golden eagles and other birds can be found in protected areas.
