According to Greek tradition, wearing a braided bracelet from red and white string on the first day of March, is considered to help protect the wearer's skin from the strong Greek sun.

This is the day of the year when Yiayia would say:

‘Απού ‘χει κόρη ακριβή, του Μάρτη ο ήλιος μην τη δει’

This translates to: “If you have a precious daughter, don’t let the sun of March see her”. In earlier years, a woman’s beauty was defined by her white soft skin. Many grandmothers would not let their daughters or granddaughters spend much time under the sun unprotected.

The traditional bracelet is called "Martis", meaning March in Greek. As soon as March ends, wearer can remove the bracelet from his/her wrist and place it on a bush or tree. Tradition says that swallows will use the bracelet to create their nest.

In the Summer the island welcomes everyone back to enjoy the sun, sand and swimming. The Summer of 2023 saw our biggest tourist session yet but if you visit in May or September, you can still enjoy the 3 S's but without the crowds. 📷 Lemnos - Nth Aegean

A village road many tourists avoid driving through ..not because of the cuteness of Thanos village, great taverna options and not to mention one of the best awarded blue flag beaches on the island..but rather due to the tight narrow roads and the natorios 'traffic light hill'. My hubby has no issue and we quite enjoy the village square in the middle of the road, locals people watching on who's coming and going. Well the 'ring' road has progressed from 2022 to now and it's coming along...slowly. So for those wanting a stress free coastal drive from Myrina to the South and east of the island, Happy days!!
