We received a lot of messages and comments regarding the Flood Situation in Budapest. Today the Danube reached its peak in Budapest and it is said that it will take approximately a Week for the water levels to decrease to average levels. What does this mean for visitors of Budapest?

First of all, Budapest is Safe to visit. There are some inconveniences such as Cruise ships not in operation, Margaret Island being closed off for safety, and some public transport lines having changes such as not stopping at certain stations close to the river, for example Tram line 2 does not go all the way, in the middle there is a part of its route where operation is seized, and the Suburban railway that goes to day trip town of Szentendre does not start from Batthanyi tér station.

You can still have an excellent time in the city, enjoy almost everything you would normally want to enjoy if you are coming in the coming week. Of course once the Danube lowers back to its average levels, it will take time to clean up the areas it flooded, so normal operations may still take some time.

Other parts of Hungary aren't as lucky, but so far there are no casualties luckily. We would like to wish for the safety for all those impacted by the flood, and hoping for no serious damage to the houses that are reached by the river. The Cakes of the Country for 2024 are out! Each year in Hungary for the August 20th Celebrations we select the Cake of the Country! There's always One Regular cake and one with No Added Sugar! The regular cake this year is the Mákvirág (Poppyflower) and the Zöldmálna (Green Raspberry).
