After a lot of online research, we found out that there is a route to hike the popular Rinjani Mountain without the masses of tourists and with a little more adventure. This meant we actually wouldn’t climb Rinjani (3726m) but go for Sangkareang (3200m), which is on the opposite side of the huge, water filled caldera and the mini-volcano inside.

Pro: no crowds,  no trash (at least not as much), view on Rinjani and really off the beaten track
Cons: you’re not climbing Rinjani.
Rinjani Second Summit or Mount Sangkareang located on 3.200 Meter above sea level. Your strenuous effort will be excellence rewarded by the breathtaking panoramic view of the Sun setting over the volcano with Bali and the Gili islands as an idyllic backdrop on the horizon. This Rinjani Trekking 2D1N is appealed to those short of time, climbing to Mt. Rinjani’s Crater Rim or Sangkareang Summit with gentle trek route where is good for beginners. Starting and ending in Tetebatu, it provides spectacular views of the Lake Segara Anak within the volcano’s crater and also called as the second summit of Mount Rinjani. The path of the route are combined with tropical rainforest and many big trees, so mostly you will walk on the shady path of the route.

Nachdem wir uns in Kuta (Lombok) nicht so wohl gefühlt haben wie erhofft, hat uns das kleine Dorf in den Bergen, Tetebatu, umso mehr gefallen 🥰

Überall wo man hinsieht, gibt es grüne Reisterrassen und Palmen. Morgens hat man noch einen Blick auf den Vulkan 🌋, an dessen Rand das Dorf liegt. Im Laufe des Tages verschwindet er in den Wolken.

👍🏼 Empfehlung, um das Leben dort besser kennenzulernen:

Eine Führung durch die Dörfer und Felder Tetebatus, bei der man selbst Reis einpflanzen und ernten 🌾 und die verschiedensten Kräuter und Früchte direkt vom Baum probieren kann 🫘

Tetebatu - the second Ubud 🌴

After we did not feel as comfortable in Kuta (Lombok) as we had hoped, we liked the small village in the mountains, Tetebatu, even more 🥰

Everywhere you look, there are green rice terraces and palm trees. In the morning you still have a view of the volcano 🌋 on whose edge the village is located. During the day it disappears in the clouds.

👍🏼 Recommendation to get to know the life there better:

A guided tour through the villages and fields of Tetebatu, where you can plant and harvest rice yourself 🌾 and taste the various herbs and fruits directly from the tree 🫘
