๐Sun 27 Oct 2024 19:30 - 01:30 The Wavecrest, Dooagh, Achill Island
The Achill Sound is a collective of musicians and voices based in Achill Island, Co Mayo. In 2023, they released their debut album, Isle of the Eagle, which captures the history, songs, and voices of life on Achill.
Their latest project, 'Achill Island, Basking Shark Fishermen', seeks to preserve oral history, culture, and stories of the island's basking shark industry during the 20th century. Musicians Graham Sweeney (guitar and vocals), Lisa Fukuda (fiddle) and Johnny Butler (uilleann pipes) will perform live traditional and newly composed Irish music to an audio-visual backdrop produced by John Michael Berry.
Join us for this unique and immersive live performance where The Achill Sound weaves traditional art forms with audio-visuals exploring an important historical chapter on Achill Island and of Ireland's marine industry.
This project is kindly supported by The Arts Council of Ireland.
