Our Story

Immerse yourself in the heritage and beautiful landscape of north Mayo with qualified and countryside guide, Denis Quinn, BA Hons Heritage Studies.

Wild Atlantic Cultural Tours is run by Denis Quinn and is based in the historic coastal town of Killala, in north Mayo. Denis offers a range of unique guided cultural and historical experiences. The tours are relaxed, informative and easily adapted to suit our visitor's needs.

One of the most popular guided tours (for all ages) is wild food foraging along the beautiful coastal shoreline of Killala. On this tour, Denis will give you an insight into the amazing local land and seascape. While out foraging, we head across the vast strand to a deserted island, where we'll gather cockles, mussels, winkles and some other seasonal wild foods. Under wide Mayo skies, we'll explore the little islands, keeping an eye out for the many different kinds of wild life here.

'You never know what you see, it's different every time we go out - some days, we spot a fox or a hare, or maybe even an otter. During the summer months, we can get a little bit close to the seals sunbathing on the banks of the estuary. The birdlife is fantastic, with many different species to observe during the months of migration. Sometimes we cook up our foraged goodies out on the shore. You can't beat the taste of fresh mussels in the glorious sea breeze.' This tour takes 2-4 hours, depending on how fast or slow you like to stroll! Wellingtons provided.
