Dolphinwatch is an award winning business on an award winning peninsula. Dolphinwatch is a family run by Geoff & Susanne Magee, since 1992. In 2012, we received Gold from Ecotourism Ireland, giving us their highest award. We are currently the only boat trip in Ireland with this accreditation. The Loop Head Peninsula, where we are situated, received the EDEN award for excellence in aquatic tourism
in 2010 and went on to win the Irish Times competition in 2013 for "The Best Place to Holiday in Ireland".

Absolutely fantastic interview with our own Susanne!! Well worth a listen as she outlines Dolphinwatch’s history and how it’s evolved over the years, and also the main threats faced by our dolphins today 🐬
As part of the Shannon Dolphin Project's 30th anniversary celebration, we've been collecting content and publishing it over the past few months.
This week's Shannon Dolphin Stories podcast features Sue Magee of Carrigaholt Dolphinwatch. She tells us about her and Geoff Magee's connection with the Shannon Dolphins.

Groups claim larger bauxite operation would pose risk to Shannon estuary, health of locals

We are delighted to see this conversation happening. Our dolphins are protected under Annex II of the EU habits directive in a Special Area of Conservation , and the inevitable spill of bauxite from such activities can lead to, inter alia, skin, liver, reproductive, heart issues, and death, not to mention the damage to environment and prey sources.
We urge everyone to attend this forum and speak out so that we can conserve this unique habitat for our beloved dolphins as well as protecting those who’s livelihood depend on the estuary. 🐬💪🐬

Carrigaholt Castle Grounds to Open Soon!
The grounds of Carrigaholt Castle, looking out at the Mouth of the Shannon, will soon be open to the public. A universal pathway (wheelchair/pushchair friendly) has been created from the car park to the castle and along the way information boards tell the castle's story, which reflects one of the most fascinating times in Irish history. Here is a short film (as gaelige) produced for TG4 that aired last Sunday evening.
Ireland’s greatest river opens out to the Atlantic Ocean at Carrigaholt on the Loop Head Peninsula, County Clare -
home to Europe’s largest group of bottlenose dolphins.
This Special Area of Conservation at the Mouth of the Shannon, is an important feeding ground for a wide range of wildlife, including the bottlenose dolphins, pelagic seabirds and grey seals. The coastal geology is fascinating, providing you with stunning backdrops. Every trip is different - given this dynamic environment and habitat.
With over 25 years of experience dolphin watching here at the Mouth of the Shannon, our encounter rate is one of the highest in the world and the best opportunity to see dolphins in Ireland.
Dolphinwatch offers one of the most exciting activities and wildlife attractions on the Wild Atlantic Way.
