The annual pilgrimage to Toberara Holy Well & Graveyard takes place this Sunday at 3pm. Meeting at St Vincent's hospital, walkers will head out along the Blueway to Sandy Bottoms and down to the graveyard and well. Fair play to all the volunteers out working there during the week and those keeping this pilgrimage alive. (Y)

By Elizabeth Lee GARDAÍ are appealing to the people who saved an elderly man from drowning in the River Barrow in Leighlinbridge on Wednesday 15 May to come forward and make themselves known. The man, who fell into the river at around 4pm, was saved by several people who were on the riverbank.

Killer at 20 years old
Killer at 20 years old

Happy Birthday to Killer. She turns 20 today and here she is out rolling around in the garden. A mighty little dog that loved boating as much as myself. I got her 20 years ago when buying a few hens from a lady who refused to sell them unless I took Killer as part of the deal. Being a small dog, I thought she needed a big name, hence Killer. However, her name did lead to a few embarrassing moments over the years. One time at Kellyville lake, a young lady got out of her car and Killer ran over with tail waggling to say hello. I could see the lady was a little nervous and turned to walk away. As she did, Killer followed of course. The girl stepped a little quicker and Killer trotted after her. I realised she was quite nervous so I started calling my dog back by shouting KILLER! KILLER! KILLER! At this point, the poor lady panicked and took off running in terror, followed excitedly by my dog, and me racing to catch up shouting after them KILLER! KILLER! I was probably lucky not to be arrested. Anyhow, happy birthday to the best little dog there ever was and apologies again to the young lady we must have scared half to death.
