The Department of Social Work was established in 1989 with the twin objectives of commitment to social relevance and the need to relate academic training to development. The Department offers specialization in Community Development and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. It has been focusing on 'Towards Value and Human Rights Education' for the past few years. From its inception, the department a

lways strove to keep itself relevant to the national scenario. Keeping in line with the changes taking place in social work education the department introduced the Human Rights perspective into its curriculum. From 2003, it has also introduced a credit based evaluation system. The Department offers new courses such as Human Rights, Gender Studies, Communication for Development, Project Management and Counseling. The Department has established the Center for International Social Work and has developed various international partnerships and there is scope for international internships and exchanges for students. For those who have heard these lines a million times and have pondered if it’s really possible when in college; for people who have written reports trying to fill pages with feelings you have never expressed before; for those who’ve organized workshops and conferences on human rights but still have felt the same being denied to you; for those who never iron their formals for field work but still look much better than hall day guests; for those who're proud to have belonged to a group; for those whose vocal chords started opening up because of those innumerable presentations and seminars; for those who gained courage to talk openly about s*x and s*xuality; and for those who have loved being in the deep woods of the MCC’s scrub jungle; this is the place for you. Rural camps, International Study Tours, Sangamam, Shramdhan, M & P and CD tours, and many more (except recommendations and admissions)..
