Student Visas: Mission India issued a record number of student visas last year – 62,000 -- and will see even more students this year. Look for appointments to start opening in mid-May for interviews starting in June. At your appointment, tell us how your course of study makes sense for you.

First-Time Tourist B1/B2 Visas: In September 2022 we will begin interviewing B1/B2 first time applicants again – this is the last category to reopen. We will start booking those appointments in the coming weeks – plan flexibly as they will go fast. We will add more appointments on a rolling basis.

Visa activities are in full-swing: 2022 is a year of recovery for our visa operations. We’ve already made significant progress tackling visa backlogs. In 2022 we anticipate processing about 800,000 visa applications. That compares to 1.2 million in pre-COVID years. It means we are doing about 2/3 of the work we normally do with about 50 percent of normal staffing.

Employment-based Visas: Consular Sections across Mission India are at capacity for petition-based employment visa dropbox appointments through August 2022. We will take about 300,000 H and L visa applications this year and will open additional slots for September and beyond in the coming weeks.

Renewal Tourist Visas (B1/B2): We are well on track to process significantly more visas than last year. For those with a currently valid visa, it is now possible to travel to the U.S. as soon as you’ve been fully vaccinated. For those who need to renew a valid visa that expired in the past 48 months, it’s generally possible to get a dropbox appointment within a few months. Those wait times will shorten over time.
