Rajasthan, the land of kings as they said, has 5 major regions (or kingdoms which came together to make Rajasthan) namely (Going clock wise starting from West), Doon Raj, Hadoti, Mewar, Marwar & Shekhawati.
Doon Raj comprising Jaipur, Pushkar, Ajmer, Beawar and areas around. The land here is a mix of Jungles, dunes and small river valleys. Below Doon Raj is the Hadoti region comprising Kota - Bundi area. This region is rich in land, plateaus, ghatis and forests with abundant wildlife. Further up Hadoti is the richest of all the Mewar comprising Udaipur, Chittor, Kumbhalgharh upto to Jawai Bandh. These regions are wildlife sanctuaries preserving the Indian leopards and panthers. Marwar with the beginning of Pali and further upto Jodhpur & Jaisalmer, have been bestowed with a scenic landscape but were the toughest to survive. And between Marwar and Doon raj lies, Shekhawati, the land of traders and merchants, starting from Churu to Bikaner comprising majorly sand dunes and deserts! Shekahwati and Marwar were the regions, who had a great name on the Old Silk Route!
All these regions have different languages, customs, cuisines and lifestyles. Isnt it interesting?
