El Vikram Samvat es un calendario lunisolar que marca el tiempo de acuerdo con los ciclos de la luna y el sol, y es ampliamente utilizado para determinar las fechas de festivales hindúes importantes, incluyendo Navratri.

El Año Nuevo según el Vikram Samvat comienza con el mes de Chaitra, que cae en marzo-abril. Today, Bharat (India) is celebrating a Vasanta Panchami festival, it is dedicated to the goddess Saraswati who is the goddess of speech and knowledge, who blesses the world with vach (words), hymns, Sanskrit and the wealth of knowledge.

On the day of Vasanta Pachami, everyone wakes up early to bathe, dress in yellow clothes, decorate their foreheads with the yellow of turmeric (tilak) and worship the goddess Saraswati. Devotees take a vegetarian meal and receive blessings.

The color yellow represents good fortune, spirituality, the ripening of spring crops and the recent harvest. Foods are colored with saffron. Goddess Saraswati dresses in yellow. In some traditional households, yellowish sweets such as kesar halva are offered to family and friends. Yellow flowers are used in abundance to decorate places of worship. The yellow flowers of the mustard crop cover the field in such a way that it seems as if gold is spread over the earth, shining in the rays of the sun.
